hi,

i have been a long time mac user, but my mac pro 1,1 is getting old. freezes, display issues, ... the list goes on. having waited for a new revision for ages, i ultimately decided to get a fully spec'd hackintosh and move on with my life.

could anyone please tell me if the following configuration would be fully supported? i really don't want to spend that much cash on something that won't run smoothly...

Apart from that being horrendously overpriced… I wouldn't go for it. $1000 for twelve gigs of RAM is a joke. That, and I've seen little to no support for the EVGA Classified motherboard.

thanks for the answer.

would the ASUS Rampage III Extreme be better?

//EDIT:

i should probably mention that those are AUD prices...

From everything I've read, it really wouldn't – if you want an easy motherboard to use, it's primarily Gigabyte, with a few – very few – Asus motherboards. I didn't see anything about the Rampage III Extreme, though.

Also, even in AUD it's still horribly overpriced. I don't know where you buy your hardware, if you do it online or in person (and I'm not from Australia) but I did some searching around and found a good selection of parts from TechBuy. Even if you don't want to buy from that site it should give you a good idea of what to buy, and what a MUCH better price is.

Antec Sonata III case - $178.35

Gigabyte EX58-UD5 motherboard - $396.20

Core i7-930 - $394.70

Crucial 6 GB (3x2) DDR3 RAM - $325.95

Hitachi 500 GB HDD - $61.74

ASUS GTS 250 1 GB GPU - $199.85

Pioneer DVD Burner - $40.25

Total price: $1,597.04 AU

I have that case, motherboard, and processor, and guarantee they all work. RAM and optical drive aren't hugely important as long as you get good ones, and I know of a lot of other people using the GTS 250.
