I have the Epson CX6600 connected to a Linux box using CUPS, in windows XP all I have to do "Add Printer", select "Network Printer" and in the "Printer URL" I enter "http://192.168.1.77:631/printers/cx6600" and windows XP looks for the drivers and I can print.

The 192.168.1.77 is my Linux box. 631 is the port that CUPS listens to.

I've been trying to get this printer to work in my osX86 INtel for a few days now. I've played with all the settings in the "Printer Setup Utility" and still no success. All the jobs are "Stopped"

Any help would be appreciated.

The drivers are available on my osX86 Intel installation. I just can get computer and printer to talk.

Thanks,

I had similar issues, but I found that I was able to get through it using daemon line comunication, my xerox pe16 is running off a wiffi PS and everything goes through my AP/Router, so I had many ways for it to not work, plus if you add that there are no drivers for that specific printer. I had to use a driver off a Lexmark I think which is identical, anyways that's besides the point. after countless hours of tinkering I choose in the first screen that comes up when you say add printer, Line printer Daemon, entered the IP and Queue, chose the driver and voila! it started printing, no error, no endless listening for port whatever, no port is busy, no nothing. perfect. maybe something about my experience might help you. either way post up your results so that others might help if it doesn't work, but if it does, so that others with similar problems know that the fix works.

GOT IT!!

Here is what I did.

Modified slightly form here http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...c=22468&hl=

Whe you are in the Printer Setup Utility

- hit Add button

- then when the list of available printers appear hit the more printers button but holding the Option key (in PCs keyboard is the windows key)

- in the first list button select advance

- then the second list button changes

- then select Internet Printing via HTTP

- write a device name

- in the device URI type the smb://user:password@the.ip.of.your.windows.pc/shared.printer.name

-in the list button of the printer model select HP

- in the list of the printers select one of the compatible PCL printers

I believe the LaserJet 4 could work, select one of the Gimp Print drivers I believe they work better.

- now hit the add button and test, try other models if this doesn't work.

Notice the bold[/bold] above. They had "Windows Printing via SAMBA" I changed mine to "Internet Printing via http", entered http://192.168.1.77/printers/CX6600" and WAM! printing starts to print...

Update for Leopard.

To get IPP printing working on Leopard I had to use this tip.

This tip enables you to get to the 'Advance' printer configuration where you can select 'Internet Printing IPP (http).
