Ive tried two versions of iPC, 10.5.6 and an older one. I was able to get osx to start with sound and working mouse/keyboard etc and i filled out the information for setup however once the dock and menubar showed up it would only last about 5 seconds before the menubar would dissapear and i would be left with the wallpaper and unresponsive dock icons. I abandoned iPC and tried iAtkos v7 (10.5.7) and all i am able to get after install is the apple logo screen. The customize in iAtkos is different than iPC so im not sure im selecting everything I need to. Is there anyone with an image of a inspiron 5100 with osx or anyone that can provide everything I need to select to get either iAtkos working or to resolve my problem with iPC?

Ive been using the suggestions from the following thread but so far its been about a week and ten dvd burns and im about ready to give up.

  • 3 weeks later...

Still no wifi. I was able to get it working twice but that was short lived because the menubar would dissapear seconds after startup and the dock would quit responding but if i opened safari quickly the window would stay up and allow me to browse the web dispite the issues with the dock/menubar. If i do not install wifi then I dont have the dock/menu problems but i have no internet. Can anyone suggest a cheap usb wifi thats easy to install and wont give me these issues? Or better yet a way to fix mine so that I can use the built in wifi and have everything else work fine...

Took another stab at it again today. Ive tried just about all of the io80211family.kext mods and versions that I could find over the last couple weeks and ultimately what worked is that I installed a file called bcm43xx_enabler_0.5.sh and my wifi works now. I couldnt tell you what io80211family file im using at this point or anything so simply applying the bcm43xx_enabler may or may not work after a fresh osx install but to anyone else who may experience the same thing that is a start. Im posting this from my Inspiron 5100 right now. Desktop froze once so far (may be overheating) but aside from that everything seems to be running great. Wish somebody could have given a suggestion or pointed me in the right direction sooner. I would hope the community would be a little more helpful in the future if myself or any other noobies need help.
