Since you have a quad core CPU, did you check the compatibility of this cpu with the OSX. Does it require some addition steps? I don't know what -y does, but since you are able to boot only in safe mode (-x) ,again, it seems to me that there are some incompatible kext files that OSX refuses to work with or it may also mean that you need to fix, say, your GPU or other hardwares. Your keyboard problem may be related to the fact that you booting into OSX in safe mode. But you should also try to fix your USBs.
