xxdavexx
Hi, New here and to the "hackintosh" community. Have recently bought a cheap Dell Optiplex GX270 as I read up that it was easy enough to install osx onto. Couldn't complain with the price tag at £60 (only browsing, music etc.) I have a MacBook for more powerfull uses. Specs are bellow. Processor Pentium 4 Processor speed 2.8 MHz RAM 512 MB Intel 865G chipset Intel Extreme Graphics 2 Integrated AC97 sound chipset I followed a youtube tutorial, which also provided a download link to some other kext files. Long story short, everything goes to plan. Everything installs ok, All up and running and I'm sitting with a resolution of 1280x1024x32. I have played around with the com.apple.Boot.plist. I have iATKOS v7 / 10.5.7 installed. The only issue now lies with my monitor. I have a Samsung SyncMaster T200HD which has 2 options in its settings of either "wide" or "4:3". I originally had the settings on the monitor itself set to wide but this makes the 1280x1024x32 resolution look stretched and horrible. So setting it to a 4:3 makes everything look perfect, except I am missing about 20cm's on either side of my monitor. Is there anything i can do about this? Or am I stuck with these 2 options. I have tried SwitchResX and DisplayConfigX to see if this would make a difference (which it didn't). I have had windows xp installed on this previously and the graphic drivers provided looked fine on my monitor. No issues such as the above. I have been searching this site and others to see if anyone has had a similar issue. I understand I am limited to my graphics chip etc. I believe to the resolutions of 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024, and 1600x1200. I did try 1600x1200, but the resolution is tiny. (again still either stretched or missing part or not filling up my screen). Can anyone suggest anything?. Thanks.

kookyklavicle
Can you not squeeze/stretch the monitors output via its own control panel?
xxdavexx
Hi, thanks for your reply. I am currently sitting at 1280 x 1024. No other screen resolutions displayed in Displays in the osx preferences. To get the resolution its at currently I had to edit the com.apple.Boot.plist., same goes for changing to any other resolution. my monitor has the option of 4:3 which shows everything in proportion correctly. But is not filling up my whole monitor. But using the other option on my monitor set to "wide" instead of 4:3 makes everything look alittle stretched and out of proportion. I am going to assume the tutorial i followed was not aimed towards working wide screens. The tutorial i followed was: I can take some photos if you need to see an example. Let me know. Thanks for your help.
kookyklavicle
Can you add the native resolution of your screen?
xxdavexx
Can you add the native resolution of your screen? I believe the native resolution of my monitor is 1680x1050, when i tried to add this to the com.apple.Boot.plist this it reverted back 1280x1024 by itself. From reading this forum and other forums in relation to my pc's model/graphics chip, I am stuck with the following resolutions, 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024, and 1600x1200. Interestingly though, when i set the resolution to 1600x1200 the monitor itself flashes up advising the resolution is not recommended at boot and advises to use 1680x1050. **EDIT** Strangely enough a quick google search returns "Best monitors for Mac Mini". http://wize.com/monitors/t10223-mac-mini Mine is listed there, "using as monitor on a mac mini with dvi to hdmi cable". I understand the big difference here, I just thought i would point this out. My Optiplex in the system profiler is also recognized as a mac mini.
