Sorry for the lacking info. I restored the retail dvd onto a USB thumbdrive, after that i installed the Ga_x58_ud5_OSx86_pack_Thijmus_v3_5.pkg onto the drive. It boots fine, but when i choose "Install Mac OS X" from the boot menu, my monitors goes blank, and the fans starts spinning at 100%. I got the EFI installer from here : http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=203017

Khan_Man
The 5870 is just getting working in the hackintosh world. That is going to be your problem spot. the board and processor are well known to the community. If U have a retail disc of Snow Leopard I'd recommend you use a kakewalk disk. Just search these forums for kakewalk. I've had a lot of trouble with USB installers. I'd also have a good long look at the 5870/5850 thread. Minardi
Thanks for the replies, i will try that kakewalk as i can see my motherboard drivers are included in that one. Before i start, what do i need to do to make my graphics card start up with some sort of standard driver, and if i do that, can i then later update? Minardi
Update: So i installed the kakewalk efi with my motherboard drivers, and edited the GraphicsEnabler string to "No" (This made my graphicscard boot during the installation) However now my problem is that everytime i try to boot onto the installation, my monitor once again goes blank, and the fan speeds up, just like when GraphicsEnabler was set to "Yes". My guess is that i need to edit the GraphicsEnabler to "No" somewere on the harddrive wich ived installed onto, however im totally lost on what to do now. Edit : So i just found out that i actually could type GraphicsEnabler=No at the boot picture, sadly it didnt work. I keep getting the message "Errors encountered while starting up the computer, pausing 5 seconds", afterwards i get the black screen and the gfx fan running at 100%. workersss
I got mine working with iAtkos S3 v2 with -v busratio=20 but I have no audio yet (still reading ... ha ha) and my vid card is not recognized but thats not surprising neither is yours since they are both fairly new but I do have sl working for the most part. I tried Kakewalk via thumb drive but just got kp before install which is most likely my vid card (I do have a 275 that I might try) Sorry just noticed you have a ud5 and not a ud3r

Prachtkeks
Why don´t you try tonmacx86´s #####, Kakewalk or Dr. Hurt´s pkgs ? They should work fine on your machine!
Stofchi
Have the same issue with the 5870. It would not boot ultimately without the Boot132 disk and the GraphicsEnabler=n switch. I tried to upgrade to 10.6.4 to see if the drivers for the 5870 are there and now I can't even load the OSX which loaded before. I get the following error. Any ideas? bluppblupp
I've got a 5850 which I finally got to work. Sorry if this has been mentioned already: 10.6.5 apparently adds support for the 5000-series Macs. Give that a go.
