Problems with Vmware Fusion 64 Bit Guest OS

Hey guys,

hope you can help me.

I have a Retail Installation with the Chameleon Boot.

Everthing is working fine.

My Problem is that I couldn´t run 64 Bit OSes :) in Vmware Fusion.

When I try to install them, he reconizes that it is an 64 Bit CD.

But when I try to install he says:

"This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU.

Unable to boot - please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU."

I tried to boot SL in 64 Bit mode, but he says the same.

My System:

Intel Core 2 Quad q8200

Gigabyte EP45-UD3LR

The HPET mode in Bios is enabled.

HPET Mode is on 64 Bit.

Can you help me please ? :)

I would be pleased

greetings

Have you tried using 32-bit guests in VMWare? I'm not as familiar with VMWare Fusion but there should be some setting in the preferences. What guest OS are you trying to install, by the way?

Another thing to check is to make sure your Snow Leopard is recognizing your CPU correctly in the System Profiler.

Hi,

thanks for the quick response.

Yes, I´ve installed 32 Bit guest systems.

Well I tried to install Windows 7 and Ubuntu as 64 Bit Version.

I didn´t see anything in the preferences.

The CPU is recognized by the System as Quad-Core Intel Xeon.

All 4 Cores are recognized. The only thing is that the speed of the CPU is wrong.

Hope you can help me...

Hi,

I just forgot something.

In the CPUINJECTOR.kext is only AQU= in the file...

Is this the problem?

I found this:

Intel Xeon Quad: 1281 - 0x501 - 0x0105 (little endian) - AQU= (Base64)

How do I integrate it?

as is: AQU=

should be???:)

AQU=(Base64)

AQU=0105

AQU=0x0105

But if the CPU wouldn´t regonized as 64 Bit CPU, I couldn´t boot the 64 Bit Kernel, right?

greetings

I believe Chameleon defaults to 64bit, so you might check your boot.plist to make sure.

If you are running a 7000 series nvidia card, you might have problems in 64 bit.

Otherwise, you might as well run in 64bit.

Also, I am running Fusion 3.1.0 and Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. It runs fine but I get some kind of memory and graphics problems after running it a while. This is likely due to VMware and Windows... My Hackintosh is running a GTX 260 very well, so I will point to VMware.

When using a real Mac Pro, I had occasional trouble with Fusion 1.0 and 2.0, so who knows.

I have digressed a lot.. sorry.

Just check your com.apple.boot.plist and see if you have any i386 flags.

If not, then run system profiler, click on software and look for "64-bit Kernel and Extensions: Yes"

If none of this stuff works, jump over to the VMware fusion forums and see if your problem is replicated. Might as well sign up over there and post your problem. Don't tell them you are running a Hackintosh. Just tell them it is an iMac as they probably wont want to help with your Hack.

Best of luck.
