glenlivet
Hello! I've been trying to install SL since two weeks now... I've used the Hazard 10.6-10.61-10.62 distro as well as the iATKOS S3. I've tried several combinations on install preferences... Each time, it says the OS installed properly but as it reboots I always get a kernel panic. Anyone can help with the choices I have to make for the install? (you understood I'm a newbie) Here's my config (I think it's not incompatible, as I've been reading a lot of stuff): Gigabyte EP45-DS3 Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 Sapphire ATI HD4850 513Mo DDR3 Ethernet: Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum Each time I get error messages, it has something to do with the ATI 4800, ATIRadeonX2000.kext, etc... I'd like at least to enter the OS so that I can do something for the kexts, but I still can't! How should I install? Is it necessary to reinstall from scratch each time or is there any way of replacing some files on the hard disk from some software (or via Windows as I have Win7 on another partition)? Thanx for helping! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/224070-install-ok-but-then-impossible-to-boot-hd4850-issues/ Share on other sites
Khan_Man
What boot loader are U using? there are commands U can give the boot loader. While the bootloader is loading press any key then try: -x and press enter. That is safe mode. Might get you to the desktop so U can work on kexts. How are U at command line? same steps as above but single user (pure command line) -s If U get in to single user and command line.... then U need to read up on Unix command line commands, navigation and file structure. MaLd0n
use arch=i386 -v -x if you can not get into the desktop delete the kext(single user) -s mount -uw / rm -rf system/library/extensions/atiradeonx2000.kext exit Gpu 32/64 1- use the kext legacyati4800controller.kex (E/E or S/L/E) http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...st&id=59328 2- Graphicsenabler Use Lizard http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1034555/lizard/Lizard-custom.zip 2a-Auto detect value 2b-GraphicsInjection 2c-save REBOOT this is added in boot.plist http://netkas.org/?p=459 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/224070-install-ok-but-then-impossible-to-boot-hd4850-issues/#findComment-1505831 Share on other sites
glenlivet
OK, by starting with -x -v, I enter SL in safe mode. I've done a lot of things, but I still can't get my HD4850 to work. I've deleted ATI4500Controller and 4600 kexts. I've added my device-id in the ATI4800Controller.kext I've run Netkas' QE/CI Exotic cards for 10.63 package (that's my OS version, installed with iATKOS S3). I've added the LegacyATI4800Controller. I've checked that Graphic Enabler is enabled in the com.apple.boot Anyway, I still get a kernel panic concerning the ATIRadeonX2000.kext and when I start in safe mode, it says that there are problems loading the ATI4800Controller.kext MaLd0n, I tried what you suggested with Lizard... It didn't help, and I couldn't even boot in safe mode. And I'm not able to write command lines... unless I'm told what to do ;-) I'm using Chameleon 2 RC4 boot loader. Any ideas??? Thanx in advance. MaLd0n
you need to remove everything that was installed Lizard with the procedure is the same as the Graphicsenbaler it only facilitates legacyati4800controller.kext (E/e) + Graphicsenabler/PciRoot only that if you have problems with black screen leave your monitor on the first port dvi and connect an adapter(dvi2vga) on the second dvi that way you work in 32/64 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/224070-install-ok-but-then-impossible-to-boot-hd4850-issues/#findComment-1506604 Share on other sites
glenlivet
Ok, it's getting a little bit better... I deleted all the ATIxxxxController kexts and the ATIX2000 kext. I only left the LegacyATI4800 kext. I did what you told me with Lizard. Now I can boot in normal mode without kernel panic. But there my PS2 keyboard is not recognized and I can't use it. As far as the ATI HD4850 is concerned: I have no possibility to change screen resolution or so. I'm stuck in 1280x1024, 32 bit mode (which I forced in Lizard so that it's implemented in the com.apple.boot). Actually, the card is not recognized and no kext is loaded (according to the "about this mac" menu). Ah yes, I also have a dvi monitor on the first slot a second monitor with a dvi2vga adapter on the second.
