stewartfan
I'm looking into a new laptop (New to me at least) and I found a Gateway that really appeals to me, it's the Gateway ID49C08u with a 2.4GHz i5, GF330M, and 4GB RAM; so basically the same setup as a 15" MacBook Pro with a 14" screen and a slightly larger HDD for less than half the price! I know it's not going to be as nice as the Mac, but I can deal with it; though the Gateway is definitely a very nice lappy for a sub1K PC. I also looked around, and I believe that the Intel H55 is fully compatible with 10.6.4, right? So. Now for my dilemma. I could go out and get this Gateway for ~$850 before other costs, or get a MacBook/MacBook Pro refurb from Apple for around $929 or less (not willing to pay more right now). I've seen the older MacBook style on there refurbed for as low as $699. So, comparing it to the $929 13" Pro, is it worth the "discount"? I know the Gateway shares spec sheets with many PC Notebooks. So, to sum up the differences: Gateway vs. Mac 2.4 i5 vs. 2.26C2D 4GB RAM vs. 2GB 500GB HDD vs. 160GB GeForce 330M vs. 9400GT 14" @ 1366x768 vs. 13" @ 1280x800 Both LED backlit 6 Hours Battery vs. 7 Hours (Claimed) Backlit trackpad vs. Backlit Keyboard 4 USB+HDMI vs. 2 USB $850 vs. $930 PC... vs. Amazing Mac-ness Both 1" thin Both have 1.3MP Webcams Both have card readers Both have Wi-Fi N Gateway specs found here: Gateway Official Site: Shop - Notebooks - ID49C08u Laptop Product Details Mac specs here: Refurbished MacBook Pro 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo - Apple Store (U.S.) (Gaming is not too important, but would be nice on the go) After writing up the specs and stuff, the Mac's seeming a little on the shabby side...as long as OSX86 is easy on this laptop. So I guess my main questions are: 1.) Which one would you go with? 2.) Will it be a relatively simple and problem-free OSX installation? Thanks in Advance =) P.S.: Sorry it's so long... =/ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/223664-laptop-h55-compatibility/ Share on other sites
