Keiron Lowe
Hi, I recently installed Kalaway 10.5.2 today and I saw that I had a 10.5.8 combo update waiting for me. I installed it and then I got stuck in a reboot loop I'm assuming its because updating isnt that easy. So I have reinstalled Kalaway and its a fresh install. I'm not an OSX expert, I don't know terminal command etc. But would someone be able to help me upgrade PLEEEASE ^^ Step-by-step would be amazing! Khan_Man
Hi Keiron, What you need is to install a different boot loader. I had a similar problem but with iPC distro. You've got Kaliway installed, I'd try Chameleon (I like r640), install it, reboot, make sure it takes over the bootloader chores, then do an update (which will require a reboot in itself so boot using verbose mode). Khan Thankyou Khan, I understood most of that except verbose mode, how do I boot using that? Also, once I have rebooted how do I make sure its takes over the bootloader chores? UPDATE: I Installed Chameleon like you said and now when I boot up about 4 rows of numbers appear and I cannot do anything.
Khan_Man
to boot in verbose mode, after you install bootloader (Chameleon) and reboot, after the bios is done but before the OS starts to load U press any key to interupt the bootloader and type in -v and press enter. It sounds like Chameleon didn't take over from the old EFI bootloader (that is what Kalyway used). Damn! I assume that the 4 rows of numbers appear right after the bios gets done? What are your specifications? I'm sure the OS can go to 10.5.8 but I don't know what to do about the bootloader. I had a quick look and I can't find any references to updating the Kalyway bootloader. I'll think about it. Kalyway is pretty old school. Is using retail not an option? Another distro would be the other obvious solution. Khan EDIT: you might try some of the other bootloaders on the Kalyway disk, see if they'll update to Chameleon.

I have just reinstalled now, unfortunately, it already started by time you replied so I have got the same boot-loader, but it did say something about I can still install others. Also, Yes the numbers did appear just after the bios. Here are my specs: http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/advent/laptop/k4000.htm My work has a leigt copy of snow leopard, but I thought I could'nt use the legit copy on non-apple computers? I do have an iAtkos disk, the only reason I havent used that is because with Kalyway, the wireless kext is better as I dont need to open the program every time I boot my laptop. Khan_Man
You do have some options. You could use the iAtkos distro and try to backup the Ralink kext/control panel from Kalyway. To boot a retail disk you need a boot disk. For Leopard I use dfe.iso. Snow Leo I have only used Kakewalk but that is only intended for Gigabyte motherboards. You might try a search for Snow Leopard boot disks. Are the resources on the Kalyway disk accessable via the Finder or only from the installer? Khan Using the retail disk sounds quite complicated, so I think I will attempt installing iAtkos and using the Ralink Kext from Kalyway. Unfortunatly, my laptop has died, so I am having to have to wait to get a new one, I don't beleive it has anything to do with this, as the battery was broken and I just always pull the power chord out, must of {censored}ed it up and it died I appreciate your help though, and I will reattempt this once I get my new laptop. (Btw, if you know a good laptop then could you please reply to this post? http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...=223745&hl= Cheers )
