Salve ! I've been trying to instal os x on my desktop pc , but everytime i run the setup ( in safe mode , in normal mode it displays a grey image and persists ) the only device recognised is the dvdrw drive ( connected via IDE port ).

I've bought an MacBookPro that came with SnowLeopard Install Disk)retail( 10.6.3 + ##### with vanilla kernel.

PC Config

MB : Asus p5kc , bios rev 1203 (2007-2008 latest) , i see no AHCI Support in it !

RAM : Corsair XMS 2 800mhz ddr2

HDD : WD sata 2 80gb , 8mb buffer

GPU : Ati radeon 2600xt, gigabyte

PowerSupply : Corsair VX450

Should i try to crossflash the p5kc bios to p5kr ? I never did this , so if someone could help me with some babysteps , it'll be parfait ! :)

Thanks in advance !

 • 3 weeks later...

Going to bump as this has been annoying me for two days now.

As some of you know the P5KC and maybe others in this series were released with AHCI support in the SATA configuration in the BIOS. However Intel asked Asus to remove it and due to issues and it has been missing from the P5KC bios drivers ever since Asus pulled it, they never bothered putting it back in.

One solution which has been posted is to cross flash with the P5KR bios, but I have DDR3 RAM and therefore cannot use it. It's a bit risky anyway in my view to use a bios version which was developed for a different board.

Anyway I was able to get iATKOS SL installed, the drives wouldn't appear in the installer until I added DuNe's kext to the installer image.

Unfortunately after successful installation when I boot with -v I get the 'Still waiting for root device' message, I've tried installing with the various bootloaders provided on the iATKOS disk and am just frustrated at this stage. Without -v I just see the no-entry/no smoking sign.

Is it just impossible to install Snow Leopard onto the SATA drive of a P5KC?

At least temporarily I was able to install Snow Leopard onto a USB external drive on the same computer no problems and am using it at the moment.

Would really appreciate if someone could offer some kind of a solution.
