Tiger Matoshi
You may want to try the VoodooHDA.kext (available here) which enables audio for a number of built in audio devices. It worked for me with my Asus M51Sn laptop (Snow Leopard), which also has HDA audio. Probably the easiest way to install a kext is to use a utility such as Kext Helper. There are tutorials around this forum for installing kexts using tools as well as doing it manually. If the system throws a kernel panic ("You need to restart your computer...") after installing a kext, just boot up with the flags "-x -s", mount the system drive read/write (instructions will be on screen), and delete that kext from /System/Library/Extensions, then just reboot. The commands you'll use are the same as any *nix variant, cd and rm. Kexts are not actually files themselves but clever directories, so you'll want to add the recursive flag (rm -r). Hope this helps!
