xtj7
Hey there, I had some issues with my Genius Look 320S. I purchased it cheap on eBay, however, the drivers that came along with it and that the vendor offered did not work on Snow Leopard (10.6.4 in my case). The UVC does not work either, obviously. It won't be detected. By extracting the Sonix driver from the original archive and using Rosetta to run the outdated Webcam Monitor, I could actually see a picture, but Skype would always crash and no other application would recognize the Webcam. Sonix offered a newer general driver for the SN9C201 (chipset that is used in the Genius webcam), which I tried to install. The installation went through without problems and I could still start Skype. However, no cam was found. Turns out, the driver doesn't support it. But the plist looked similar and the device id wasn't found in there, so I modified the plist based on the old drivers plist. Once the cam was detected, it motivated me even more, but the sensor did not initialize, so I figured the sensor name might be differently in the vendors driver. Playing around with it, I could finally get the cam to initialize and show me a picture. Now the cam works fine for me, Skype lets me use it and it's completely available throughout the system without crashes. As many people have failed and I did not see any solution to this problem online, I thought I would share my success and upload the modified driver. Just extract the attached file into your /Library/Quicktime/ directory (System root) and restart Skype. Then you will be able to use the webcam. I do recommend to install this driver beforehand though: http://www.sonix.com.tw/sonix/product.do?p...20(Phase%20out) It installs a Webcam Monitor tool, that you can use to adjust the resolution (set it to 640x480) and other settings. Remember to exit any other apps that you wish to use the webcam with beforehand (Skype in my case), change your settings, exit the Webcam tool and then start your apps (Skype) again. The camera will then only remember the new settings. Hope this helps!
