Vibrational Mode
Hi everyone. Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this question, but I was hoping I could get a little advice about upgrading my hackintosh install. I installed Snow Leopard on an Asus P5K with a Core Duo e6750 running 2GB RAM with an eVGA 8800 GTS. The whole thing took a lot of work to get running, but eventually I was able to do a vanilla install from retail disks, and didn't do any fiddling with patched kernels or anything. I just had to locate the appropriate Kexts and also do a bit of EFI string fiddling. I know I'm using the VooDooHD sound kexts, and that I really REALLY need specific IOATAFamily kexts in order for the machine to even SEE my HDD (The P5K does NOT support AHCI, so this is critical). Currently things are working well. Upgrading to 10.6.2 gave me kernel panics that I was eventually able to solve by removing the sleepenabler kext. When 10.6.3 rolled around, I really couldn't afford to lose my hackintosh, so I avoided the upgrade. Now 10.6.4 is here, and I fear for leaving my system unpatched due to security vulnerabilities. Can someone please advise me on the best way to patch a hackintosh from 10.6.2 to 10.6.4, particularly in regard to what might break/get utterly destroyed in the process? Am I looking at more kernel panics? Losing the ability to see my HDD? I've read that sound and drives can be lost. Any advice anyone could provide would be really appreciated! Thanks in advance. Most issues with kernel panic's when updating OSX can be attributed to SleepEnabler.kext. Usually if you have a working system prior to updating, all you need to do is swap the SleepEnabler.kext to a version that's known to work. Back up your install first .. either use Time Machine (if it works), or SuperDuper (3rd party tool, not free), of course you need a 2nd HD for this. See http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=196466 for a updated SleepEnabler.kext Download 10.6.4 Combo Update via http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1048
Jonher937
When I updated I did like this Copy "mach_kernel" and rename it to "mach_kernel2" Then I backuped all my extensions and then removed "SleepEnabler.kext" from the main extensions folder. Installed update. Rebooted. Got Kernel Panic. Then I Rebooted. At promt mach_kernel2 Worked fine / Jonher937
