First off, HI. If this is in the wrong section, I apologize. I have a Dell Dimension 8200 that I just got from my grandad the other day. I am trying to install OS X "Leopard" on it using the iATKOS V7 distro. It installs fine, but when it comes to booting, it hangs on the grey Apple screen. I have tried booting with '-x', which does the same thing. Have tried 'rd=disk0s1', same thing. I just tried with '-v' again, and I see scrolling lines of code, then the screen goes black and stays black. It is scrolling too fast to be able to read anything, so I cannot give any error lines. However, last night, I ran -v also, and I could have sworn I saw something for a split second reading something about DST missing. No idea. I am using the Chameleon 2.0 bootloader BTW. Havent tried changing bootloaders...I installed Windows 7 on it yesterday to get an idea of what I am working with here, using CPUZ. (already formatted again, so can't go back into Windows). Here is what I got from CPUZ.

anything else you guys need to know? when i get off work today i can reload windows and check.

I have tried reformatting, reinstalling, everything I can think of. I am officially stumped. I even downloaded 'JAS' and installed Tiger. Install went fine, but when it came to booting, all I got was _ in the upper left corner, and nothing else. So I reloaded Leopard over Tiger. Still nothing. Only thing I can think of is something BIOS related, however, I don't have very many options in the BIOS. I have tried turning off USB legacy support, no change. This system doesn't seem to be very popular for a hackintosh platform, as I cannot seem to find any guides. Here are a couple pictures...

heres the bootloader screen

and heres the grey apple screen that it stays stuck at. its totally locked up, the keyboard is nonresponsive, the caps lock light doesnt even come on.

Any insight you guys can give me will mean the world to me. Thanks!

Nick

oh, and I just noticed, at the grey apple screen, my laser mouse keeps lighting up, then dimming down, as if something was loading.

got it. ended up ditching iatkos and using ideneb. OS X Leopard is installed on the Dell.

I have no audio or video though. I tried a set of drivers for ati called like 'corilo' or something like that, and couldnt figure out how to edit the .kext files. I would like to have openGL enabled, higher resolution, and better color. and audio. rest of the system works 100%, i didnt even have to install the drivers for my aftermarket netgear wireless USB adapter. if ANYONE could help me out i would SO appreciate it!!

oh, and the drivers i tried are meant for 10.4.. but on another forum they were being reccomended for 10.5.. so maybe im just too tired+drunk to figure it out?? this is one of the first times in my life that a computer is beating me, and i dont like it... im willing to try ANYTHING!!!

oh.. and a sidenote: i put in my old 40GB hard drive to install windows on to use as a dual booter, and it will not install to that partition, says its not a valid installation media. i made sure the drive is turned on in bios. do i need to unplug the leopard drive, load windows, then plug the leopard drive back in, and set the bootloader settings?

ended up getting callisto to work. it is now detecting my ati all in wonder x800 256MB AGP, though the name is AGP, the computer says its PCI. can change resolutions, etc. about to test 3d graphics...

also got an old sound blaster LIVE! card working using the KX drivers. its a EMU10k1 processor. now all i gotta fix is the 'about this mac' crash.
