Okay I've had my Apple up and running great for about a year now, but I recently bought a HDD and I wanted to make a mirror copy. I was going to use the "Restore" function in the Disk Utility, however I didnt want to copy all my videos/music.

So, I decided to copy the files manually. I used the Show/Hide Utility to show all the hidden files, and I couldn't get them to copy because of "insufficient permissions". So, I googled it and I I found someone saying:

Open Terminal and type:

"sudo chmod / 664"

So I did. Then I couldn't open my apple drive or any applications, but I could access the other drives.

I am thinking that I maybe disabled my access to the files and now I cannot get into my apple. When booting in "-v" mode, the process keeps saying "File not found" and never boots up.

I am currently booted in the "-s" and I am able to mount the drive and everything, but I don't know what to re-chmod or if I even should.

Any help would be great ;)

Thanks,

~Eric

Okay, when I mount the disk in "-s" mode and tab "/", it shows the following files/folders to exist:

$RECYCLE.BIN/

.Chameleon.

.Spotlight-V100/

.Trashes/

.fseventsd/

.vol/

Backup Extensions/

Developer/

Extra/

Extra (from old Mac)/

Library/

Network/

Patch/

System/

bin/

boot

cores/

darwin/

dev/

etc/

home/

ALSO: I do keep a regular Backup on a Network Drive via TimeMachine.

Woot!

I was searching around and I found a simalar issue.

I used the solution from the iATKOS_v7 DVD and problem Solved :]

Solution:

However, I still can't figure out how to copy root files :/
