If you've got an OS X installation you don't want to disrupt, your best option is to buy a second hard disk for Windows XP. Failing that, your options are to convert the disk from GPT to MBR or to create a hybrid MBR. Hybrid MBRs are common on Hackintoshes (and on real Macs that run Boot Camp) in order to work around Windows' disability with respect to GPT.

Hi,

I had the same issue. Basically Windows that supporting GPT are Windows Vista 64 and Windows 7 64. But they supports it ONLY if your BIOS can boot through UEFI 2.0 which most BIOS these days doesn't support it yet. CMIIW Even most Mac Pro and MBP doesn't support UEFI 2.0 yet.

So in the end i had to go with Hybrid GPT which is risky in a sense that if i made change to a boot loader to particular OS then it will tilt the balance.

The easiest solution is of course to put Windows on separate drive. Linux is the most beautiful here that it supports whatever format you have be it GPT, MBR or Hybrid.

Cheers,

PA
