After the install of 10.4.6, sound works right out of the box, but after a while it disappears for absolutely no reason (think it happens when playing DivX movies, but not sure as I didn't do enough testing, and I did play some movies fine with sound). Everything is gone, the volume control disappears, when you go to System Preferences -> Sounds -> Output, it shows that I have no output devices. I use an AC97 built in soundcard on the laptop (not sure the exact chip). The sound does not come back after rebooting. The only way that I found to get the sound back is to reinstall the entire OS. Not very practical. Anyone knows how to get sound back without reinstalling the whole OS again? And what the problem might be? It's really driving me nuts, as everything else works great on my laptop except for wireless, but that's a whole other discussion.
