Padmei
Im wokring on this myself, I hope its not our opterons. I heard that it has something to do with SSE3, but when I am installing it, it wont let me change anything within the Intel and AMD package. I did the exact same thing as you and got an identical message. System Specs: AMD opteron 165 2.3ghz DFI Lanparty Ultra-D 2gb G.skill ram Raid 0 Western Digital 250gb, and I installed on a IDE 4.5 gig I found in a box downstairs ATI Radeon X1800XT w/ accelero 2 Are you installing on the SATA 2 drive? I'm no expert but that could pose a problem maybe? negative zero
ya, I am installing it on to SATA 2 but it can boot. So I guess that's not the problem of SATA 2 even though it took me like 3 days to get it to work. Did you overclock your Opteron? And where did you hear about the SSE3? I think Opteron 165 Support SSE3, doesn't it? Padmei
Yes, I overclocked to 2.3, but I'm probably going to go higher, I'm looking at 2.5. I'm mnot certain if it supports SSE3, my guess is that it should, and I can't for the life of me find where I read that, but I believe it was for a similar problem. I'll keep looking around, but I was kind of hoping that one of the pros would know where we are coming from Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/21992-kernel-panic-after-installation/#findComment-145609 Share on other sites
JaS
When installing select the amd sse2 package and any other amd patches you need. That should fix the issue. Padmei
Its wont let me select individual packages within the Intel and AMD thing. Example, when I load the customize installation I delect the printer drivers and I click the arrow next to the Intel and AMD thing but I can select anything but the main check box (Next to the intel and AMD one). Sorry for typing confusingly, I dont know how to explain it. Otherwise I'd try a few things. Any suggestions? JaS
Well this is the first time I have heard of someone not being able to click on the arrow thing and bring up the list of amd and intel packages. If thats the case maybe you have a bad/corrupted image. If you cant select the packages you need for your system then your out of luck.I would say to try another image. sorry Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/21992-kernel-panic-after-installation/#findComment-145622 Share on other sites
Padmei
Maybe I will burn it again and see what happens, its not that I cant click the arrow, I can display all the different options under the package, I just cant change which ones I chose. Perhaps since its already installed it wont let me change it? I didn't check before I installed it the first time, and I never uninstalled it to check. Padmei
*Update* Thats what it was. Since I already had all the packages installed, it would not let me chose which ones I wanted. Now to test certain packages. http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=17513 Thats the forum where I found out about SSE3 Its not the same error, but its similar, and halfway down a guy with an opty 165 said that AMD users should only use SSE2 and not SSE3, so I am inalling now and trying it without SSE3 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/21992-kernel-panic-after-installation/#findComment-145627 Share on other sites
Padmei
Thats got 'er. LeadToDeath, when you install the packages, leave out the SSE3 package, and it worked for me. Bst of luck!
