Hi Folks,

Putting together a new machine for a friend and went for osx86 friendly components. This my second hackintosh from scratch build and is a little bit more expensive but has a little more power and definitely uses some nicer components. All purchased from Newegg in a whimsical fashion

Components:

GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R (Intel X58, SATA 6Gb/s, USB 3.0) - 209.99

Intel Core i7-930 2.8GHz - 288.99

EVGA GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 896MB (896-P3-1257-AR Superclocked Edition) = 204.99

OCZ Vertex 2 50GB MLC SDD - 199.00

CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit - 229.99

CORSAIR HX Series CMPSU-750HX 750 watt PSU - 149.99

Corsair 800D CC800DW Case - 269.99

ASUS CD/DVD Drive - 25.99

(2) SATA 3/2/1 Cables - 7.98

Shipping: 34.20

Grand Total: 1621.11

Looking to do the Kakewalk install method.

i just used kakewalk 2.2 for a similar build last week, using the same mobo: ga-x58a-ud3r. network won't work - you will simply need to download the realtek rtl1111e drivers from realtek and it will work straight away (i have a thread about it if u search).

Hi Phorte,

Was actually just reading your other thread and want to see if you could clarify exactly which link from the Realtek site you used.

This page seems most likely:

http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloads...p;GetDown=false

And the download link I am assuming under the "Other's->Mac" section? Then we use kexthelper to install it?

congsang - If I have any issues with audio i will post it but from what i hear it seems to well with the Kakewalk method.

thank you,

dpc

yep, thats the link! although it says its for 10.4 and 10.5, it's actually also for 10.6 too.

once OSX is up and running, just download that driver from the realtek site then install it as you would install a normal .dmg in osx. its a real mac driver so install it like a normal mac drive. :P

  • 1 month later...

delicatepc and Phorte,

Do you recommend using the USB method(Phorte I saw in your sig you used USB) or CD method? I saw a thread that both of you have posted on for a Rev 2 support, did you ever get 'sleep' working correctly? Do you have any suggestions on a wireless card I can get that will be compatible?

The build I will be attempting later this week:

Intel Core i7-930 Bloomfield 2.8GHz Quad-Core

GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R Motherboard

G.SKILL 12GB (6 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

EVGA 01G-P3-1158-TR GeForce GTS 250 1GB 256-bit

LG Black 10X Blu-ray Burner

CORSAIR HX Series CMPSU-850HX 850W

SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM SATA

COOLER MASTER HAF 932 RC-932-KKN1-GP Black Steel

Scythe SCMG-2100 Sleeve CPU Cooler

Thanks people.

the realtek driver on the website is 32 bit only. there is a newer 64 bit solution... this patched IONetworkingFamily.kextRealtec_8111D_3264.zip

there is a great thread by nullspot on the x58a-ud3r rev. 2.0 - you should read it.
