Identifying a sound card without Windows installed, or Linux, Is there a way?

Right, i wanted to know if there was a way to see to indentify the sound as i have already installed MAC OS X, but i can't get the sound to work, so i need some help to do so, if it's possible can you guys give me full instructions that'll be great! but if you could just tell me which drivers and i need to download that'll be great too..
