Dear all,

I am about to take the OSX86 plunge! However, I had a few nagging worries. I would be tremendously grateful if you could help me out.

On my previous Compaq laptop I had installed Ubuntu 8.04 and about a month later the fan gave up on me. Now I am not sure if it was Ubuntu that was the cause but I came across people who had the same thing happen to them. Apparently the fan would be continuously on and eventually die out.

I have purchased a new laptop and I am worried if iATKOS 7 may harm my hardware in any way. I am a student and money is not easy to come by. If there is any chance of my hardware getting harmed, please please give me the heads up! I can always get a mac later when I get a job :)

My system is as follows -

Lenovo G450-2949 9DQ Notebook

Intel Pentium Dual-Core T4300 2.10GHz

14 inch widescreen 1366X768 Display

0.3 MP Webcamera

1 GB DDR3 RAM

Intel Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (I think it is GMA 4500)

Intel 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller

Broadcom Wireless BCM4312

Broadcom NetLink BCM5906M Fast Ethernet PCI Express

Seagate ST9250315AS 250 GB HDD

Mat{censored}a DVD-RAM UJ880AS

(Motherboard is Lenovo NITU1 according to sudo lshw on Ubuntu)

I have downloaded iATKOS 7, iWork 09 and backed up all my data.

Waiting with crossed fingers!

Its a fairly new laptop, so there isnt much on it failure/problem/compatibility wise. As long as you don't hear the fan running full speed when it starts booting osx86 (when laptops first come on they usually run the fan at full speed so you can hear that it works) the fan should be ok. Dont overclock your cpu (if you need cpupmcontrol figure it out before you play with it). Back up EVERYTING fairly frequently especially if you are using windows/linux as well (dual boot is always trickier). And finally, if osx86 makes you frustrated, don't chuck it off of the top of your dorm. It will not likely survive. ;)
