KeFfBoY
Okey. I've finally managed to get all my system working. Running a Q6600 on a Asus P5E motherboard, and I have 3 GB of DDR2 and a GeForce 8800GTS 512 MB graphics card in the rig. The computer is decently fast so I must say I am surprised that the performance in OSX seems somewhat sluggish. Okey, so what's the catch? Everything seems to work.. I've even got Sleep to work using dsdt fix and the graphics driver seems ok as I could load up and play a game of Starcraft2 (even though the game ran noticeable slower than it did in Windows7...). Question is now whether everything really is ok, since when I booted up XCode and ran an IPhone app in the emulator (which does run at 60 fps on my Mac Mini which is a by far worse computer) I only got 30 fps and really abysmal performance. Does anyone have any experience of running XCode and IPhone emulator on a hackintosh and if so, what was the performance compared to real apple hardware? When I ran a 1080p movie on my other screen I also felt that the whole system was incredible unresponsible, compared to what it is in Windows7 where running a movie barely affect overall performance at all. I wonder if it's something in my hardware that I still need to fix, like some chipset driver, or something. I don't know, but the performance at this point does not impress at all ... I currently use NVEnabler 64.kext for graphics, and I wonder if you guys know any better kext, or got a clue of what might cause this sluggishness. imacken
Can you run Geekbench, Xbench and OpenGL Extensions Viewer and post the results. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/218604-abysmal-performance/#findComment-1469721 Share on other sites

Good idea, thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/218604-abysmal-performance/#findComment-1469722 Share on other sites
KeFfBoY
Okey, after running these tests I am very puzzled. Here is the results from running benchmarks on the PC and also the MacMini: GEEKBENCH ********** PC: 5193 ( Integer: 4622, FP: 8252, Memory: 2547, Stream: 1785 ) MacMini: 3231 ( Integer 2602, FP: 4673, Memory 2544, Stream: 1764 ) Summary: The PC outperformed on the expected areas, which means everything but memory and harddrive.. XBENCH: ******** PC: 171.44 ( CPU: 167, Thread: 359, Memory: 178, Quartz: 223, OpenGL: 150, UI: 307, Disk: 82 ) MacMini: 138.56 ( CPU: 157, Thread: 276, Memory: 181, Quartz: 192, OpenGL: 134, UI: 306, Disk: 52 ) Summary: The PC outperformed on the expected areas, which means everything but memory and harddrive.. OPENGL ******* OpenGL (all settings on the default, 1920x1080x32x60hz fullscreen ) PC: 2800 fps average. MacMini: 330 fps average.. (3.0 test failed on both rigs, all others passed) Summary: Bananas.. This somewhat does NOT explain why the IPhone emulator in XCode runs at like 50% performance with very jaggy performance on the PC compared to the MacMini ( Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/218604-abysmal-performance/#findComment-1469750 Share on other sites
imacken
I had a similar rig to yours before my current one, and as far as I remember your results are OK. Apart from the iPhone emulator thing, what reason do you have to think you've got 'abysmal' performance? Well, for example browsing the web, playing videos seems more sluggish than on Windows, but I guess it might just be the OS. The problem really is the IPhone-emulator, since I planned to use this rig as a development station. If anyone else has any experience of using the IPhone developmentkit on a Hackintosh please tell me about your experience! Thanks in advance.
