bhess
I am currently downloading the OSx86 DVD and I am and I am also borrowing a 256mb Nvidia Geforce 6500, PCI Express. Since this is not a very common card, I was wondering if it would work with OSx86. If not, would this one work? My other hardware is a 3ghz P4 Prescot Asus P5GPL-X Mobo 512mb Corsair XMS RAM 80gb SATA HDD DVD Burner (forgot the brand, think it's NEC) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/21854-geforce-6500-pci-e/ Share on other sites
sandmanfvrga
ALL Nvidia cards DO NOT WORK like ATI with QE/CI. I would just get a Saphire X1600XT or PRO (Pro for AGP) and then you will have full support, barring a minor glitch. Go to the wiki, then to 10.4.6 hardware, then to graphics. There is an Asus X1600 card that is FULLY supported. The agp ones, I am getting it, doesn't work with DVI yet. I think when ATI releases drivers it will change. Just get use to the fact Nvidia doesn't work. Well it does, but not hardware accelerated. bhess
You say the PRO is for AGP? What if I got a PCI-E x1600PRO. I'm not really willing to spend the money on an XT. Also, I'm not seeing a single ASUS card on the hardware compatibility list for 10.4.6 Thanks for the quick reply. sandmanfvrga
Go to www.newegg.com. The Pro cards are in AGP only. The PCIE X1600XT is not high. Here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814102657 $131 for that, not high at all and you will have all the power in OSX86 you will need. EDIT: You can take $20 after rebate. bhess
I was looking at Newegg and I found a Sapphire card exactly like that but pro and $95, and it was also PCI-E. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814102651 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/21854-geforce-6500-pci-e/#findComment-144422 Share on other sites
sandmanfvrga
Ok, the pro is on the PCIE to. heh The reviews say something about DELL and not working. Check that first. I read reviews and such. Was going to get the X1600Pro 512 but it has a lot of feedback about to hot. It is up to you man but get what you want. Either way you will have great support but probably no DVI. The XT I think have DVI so if you need DVI, think about that. EDIT: Check here again: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/HCL_10.4.6 The XT DOES have DVI support. I use a great 20 inch CRT so I don't care but if you need DVI you need the XT. Hope that helps. bhess
When you say the Pro pci-e works perfectely, do you also mean that the DVi out works? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/21854-geforce-6500-pci-e/#findComment-144432 Share on other sites

bhess
It will be a couple of weeks until I can get a new card, so is there any way to get Nvidia working foth acceleration? I have it installed, but Expose, dashboard and other effects run slowly. I also tried playing Cube, and it was around 1fps.
