thetonio
I dug around and used the search function, but could not find my topic covered... Does anybody know if the new socket AM2 is compatible with OSx86? Do you have any hunches, well-informed estimates or experience? Sorry if I'm ignorant and different sockets don't play a role in OS compatability. By the way, the CPU I was planning to get to run on the AM2 Mobo was the Athlon 64 X2, most likely the 3800+. DrJaymez
I am running on an AM2 rig. Things are great, but I do not have UDMA support at the moment. I have the hardware device ID (036E)? and I am going to try plugging that into the driver kext within the next few days. Here's to hoping that the PATA architecture on the nforce5 has not changed. I have also ordered a PCI SATA card with a Via chipset, and may try to get that rolling. Only other issue is my sound didn't work right off the bat. All I really do is listen to music, so I bought a cheap USB sound adapter and plugged my speakers into that. Oh yeah, and a USB wireless network adapter too. Other than that and the fact that I had an nvidia card instead of the ATI, things were pretty smooth. I would be happy to field any specific questions. thetonio
Thanks DrJaymez, your response is appreciated. I've actually been convinced to get a Conroe now instead, so unfortunately I won't be able to report back my own experiences with the new technology. Have you resolved your UDMA & SATA issues? I have been thinking about the AM2 route as well with a 3500+ single core and suitable MB. Do you have any recommendations? Many thanks in advance. mperovic
I am running OSx86 on Athlon64 AM2 3000+. My motherboard is Gigabyte GA-M55Plus-S3G, display card is Club3D X1600Pro. 3x5a3d
I installed well OSX86 on my M2N-E motherboard but the access disk are too slow! It is beautiful to have an OSX86 but it is unusable... there is a hope to see a driver (PATA and SATA) published one day for nforce5? OSX86 is Intel only. Am i mistaken? 3x5a3d
Yes it is true you are right. A small question. I read that Darwin codes source was closed. Some drivers has been modified and compiled from these sources. This modification can make it compatible with osx86. The problem is that Darwin doesn't have nforce5 driver. Perhaps APPLE will write a driver for INTEL nforce5 (Asus P5NSLI for example). Do you think to be able to work on without sources (Revert Engineering)? Or can you make it from scratch? I need to believe because i am a pro AMD and I don't want to buy intel to use osx86! Sorry for my English and if my questions appear stupid!
