Sormaus
I've built many Windows/Linux based computers for many people, but I have yet to try my hand at getting OS X to run on an x86 based machine. Thanks to this website and the joy of Google, I think I have a good idea of what is required. Hopefully I can get some feedback on this build, and I'm always open to suggestions! Proc: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 Mobo: Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L Graphics: XFX GeForce 8400GS RAM: PNY 2Gb DDR 800 I made the entire build a public wishlist on Newegg: http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWi...Number=18864568 My big concern is going with that quadcore verses an E6XXX dual core. Mackilroy
If you could spend ~$200 more you could build a Core i5 machine with four gigs of RAM.
Sormaus
I'm not particularly locked into the G41 chipset or the LGA775, it just looked like it is probably the easiest to setup. Which motherboard/i5 proc would you recommend? And the build I have is setup with 4GB of RAM.
Mackilroy
Gigabyte is well recommended among hackintosh users from everything that I've seen – I have their EX58-UD5 for mine. If you went for the Core i5 I'd recommend the i5 750, and for a motherboard I'd go with the GA-P55M-UD2. If there's a Microcenter near you you'd be able to save a little money on the i5 750 (probably around $20). An install method can be found here for that motherboard and processor.
