DVD player (sort of) not recognized

My DVD is not detected in EJECT button (top tool bar) but disks that are in DVD are shown on desktop.

This generally is not a problem however I believe there is a corolation between and PARALLELS (and Virtualbox and VMWare) not seeing this drive

When the VM boots up (I have some OS disk in drive), it gives a "NO BOOTABLE DRIVE" type error

I make an ISO and install the OS's that way

 

Even when the OS's are running, they cannot see any disks in the drive
