Speedy2k42
I am looking for a way to install Mac OS X on my Asus laptop without having to reinstall Windows 7 if possible. My problem is as follows: When I had my Dell Inspiron laptop, I was able to dual boot windows XP and mac os x without having to recover windows after installing os x. When I got this new ASUS laptop with Vista (and now I upgraded it to Windows 7) all the dual booting methods would end up deleting windows, requiring you to reboot with the windows installation disc and select fix/recovery. HOWEVER, the problem for me is that the ASUS windows recovery disc that came with my computer doesn't give me the option to fix/recover my installation. It automatically reinstalls Windows and configures it to appear like it was just out of the box, with all the crappy unnecessary extras and deleting my OS X partition, so i could never install OS X to dual boot. EDIT: if i do in fact figure out a way to get my windows cd to fix/recover the installation, will I be able to use the system image I created with Windows 7 back-up to restore everything to the way it was before I had to recover? Any ideas or suggestions? Very much appreciated. Thanks!

srs5694
Here is a source for Windows 7 recovery discs. Note that I've not tried these; I just happen to have the URL bookmarked.
muchlife
all you need is a normal windows 7 install disc, and choose repair installation. you wont have to reinstall anything. if you already have a separate partition ready for OSX to install on. just because you used a proprietary ASUS windows install disc to install windows, doesn't mean you can't use a normal windows 7 install disc to repair the installation. the only reason it needs to be repaired in the first place is when you install an OS on the same hard drive, the bootloader gets screwed up, probably only because the windows installation isnt active anymore. repair disc often just makes it active again, or repairs the windows bootloader
