Armentage
I'm running SL 10.6.2 on a Gigabyte EP35-DS3L. Everything works wonderfully, except that when I try to create a Windows7 or XP VM install with BOTH Parallels 5 or VMWare Fusion 3, I get a SL Kernel Panic. Not sure what's going on except that my install gets about 20% through before the screen goes gray. The fact that it's happening with both VMWare and Parallels seems to scream that there's something wrong with some driver on my machine -- my bet is the network (I'm using the built-in gigabit ether), but it works perfectly fine in my day-to-day osx work. Any ideas? I've tried searching for a thread, but alas, I haven't found anything like this anywhere. Armentage
Yes, I did eventually solve the problem, but it wasn't anything like what I expected! I had 6gb of ram in this machine, as a mix of 2x1gb and 2x2gb modules. The memory speed on these modules was different, which seemed to work 99% of the time, but I guess whatever the OS is doing while running a VM is too intensive for the memory controller to be able to deal with the mis-matched memory speeds. I simply took out the extra 2x1gb of ram and now everything is running rock solid. I actually think the machine is running much faster in general. All my VM's run perfectly fine now.
