Apple's iPad launch in the US has been overwhelmingly successful - so much so that everyone else across the rest of the world will now have to wait til the "end of May" to be able to purchase the all-new device from Apple.

"Although we have delivered more than 500,000 iPads during its first week, demand is far higher than we predicted and will likely continue to exceed our supply over the next several weeks as more people see and touch an iPad," Apple said. "We have also taken a large number of pre-orders for iPad 3G models for delivery by the end of April."

This will come as disappointment to many, although it hasn't stopped some people from picking one up in the US and bringing it home.

However, rest assured that once iPads do eventually start shipping internationally, both the WiFi-only and WiFi & 3G versions will be available from launch.

Wow. Looks like Apple has some work cut out for them. Hope they can keep up with the demand.

I'm really curious to see if the 3G version is more, or less successful as the wifi. I gladly chose the wifi version as my iPad spends most of it's time on a lap near WiFi access. 3G (as evident on my iPhone) is still painfully slow. I can't imagine using the iPad on that network.
