I'm discussing the building of a i7 HackMac with someone and I was trying to compare how the prices compare to Apple's own Intel Macs. I must admit I'm totally lost: I can't make heads or tails, what is what in Apple's lineup in this huge confusion of cores, and CPUs, dual times this and quad times that and who knows what not.

Did anyone see a chart somewhere that lists Apple's Intel Macs and how they compare to each other? Like, with an audio benchmark test. Extra points for stating if the longer lines mean better or worse. TIA

I take it your trying to see how a Mac Pro stacks up against i7 (P55 or X58).

Bottom line P55 socket 1156 is the cheapest most bang for the buck.

This will run anything com-probable to a current Mac Pro with one Xeon

Overclocked to to 3.8ghz will move you up to surpass the two Xeon Mac Pro in the majority of Apps.

Geek bench surpassing 12000 points for the Hackintosh is very powerful.

Hello Hangten, thank you for your help.

After discussing all the possibilities, CPUs and models, I ultimately settled for having a Q8400 HackMac built (and overclocked close to 4GHz) instead for $700 less.

Not the ultimate machine, just the one fitting my needs and means the best.
