OS X 10.4.8. on a single-core PC

Hi.

 

I'm not 100% sure if I've done this properly, but I tried to install the Jas 10.4.8 SSE2 SSE3 Mac OS X onto a computer running Windows XP (SP2).

 

The installation started properly and ended properly. But it doesn't boot. When I get to the boot menu, I can only see the DVD boot option. If I remove the Jas DVD+R, it boots into XP automatically.

 

After trying this a few times, with the same result, I also attempted to use Kalyway's 10.5.2, and iPC's 10.5.6, but those ISOs always freeze before even getting to the first screen of the installation process.

 

If I post my configuration here, would somebody know whether my computer is able to run any version of OS X natively or not? (Although I was thinking: If the DVD works properly when it installs, shouldn't that version of Mac OS X be supposed to work, too? Maybe I'm just doing some little thing wrong.)

for example my posts - you can find how to prepare the disk (how to format, set boot ) before installation.

I followed the instructions in a YouTube video. (Would you like to know the exact clip?)

There was also a similar set of instructions on one of the OSX86 Project pages. (- looks like Wikipedia)

So, I'm close to being sure that I followed the instructions properly. But the instructions weren't saying anything about setting boot; after setting the hard drive as active, and installing Mac OS X, I was supposed to let the PC restart and then I was supposed to see the option to boot the hard drive installation I had just completed.

 

Now, the configuration:

Desktop PC (JaS Mac OS X 10.4.8 SSE2 SSE3 PPF1)

Motherboard = ASUS P4P800

CPU = Intel® Pentium® 4 @ 3.00GHz

RAM = 512MB

Network = Realtek Ethernet NIC (100Mbps) -- I think

disk0 = Samsung 30GB

disk1 = Seagate 80GB

DVD-RW = NEC DVD Burner

Is that enough, hopefully?

If I boot into the installation DVD, and go to the 'Startup Disk' option, I can see the hard-drive install showing up there. But, even if I select it to start upon reboot, it still won't start.

 

The partition was set as active. I have no idea how to check if the partition starts before cylinder 1024, though.

Also, the 'sudo' command (in 'Terminal') cannot be found for some reason.

(Could this be a defective Mac OS X image, or something?)

 

How can it install properly (- the DVD behaves perfectly during the formatting and installation processes -) and then not even attempt to boot?

You might be interested in the project I'm currently in the process of developing.<br />It's called Mac4PC - I'm 99% sure that it would work on your computer.<br />The whole project took me a year, and because I'm very close to release a BETA version, I've decided to show the finished product itself. I work very fast and currently trying to get the stupid quad cores and the AMD's to work. It took me <b>2 days</b> to get my GeForce 4 Go card working on the TC1100.
