I had updated 10.6.3 (combo package) with no seemingly hardw problems (vanilla via PC EFI 10.6) but after reboot most apps hangs and stays in "Not responding" state forever. i.e. Finder (no new windows and inaccessible desktop), Safari, Console, System Preferences, Adium. But some apps works just fine i.e. Opera (currently using), Mail, Software Update, System Profiler, Terminal, VLC. Also I can mount DMGs and install PKGs.

I can boot in -x and apps works fine. I used this to check syslog but can't distinguish any suspicious records.

I had double checked all kexts in /E/E. removed most leaving only critical ones. Still with the same result.

Funny thing noticed - I can use finder windows and desktop is accessible if Finder window was opened at logon.

Remove AppleHPHET.kext in S/L/E

done... but I'm not sure how. I just maniacally reinstalled 10.6.3 two or three times more. with all supposed post-install actions for kexts. and after regular reboot it just starts working.

well may be I need to check hdd consistency, or may be update my straighthands.kext after all.

I have same issue. I don't want to reinstall system.

I tried to remove AppleHPHET.kext in S/L/E but it crashed the whole system.

I have vanilla 10.6.3 with custom DSDT for intel t8300 core 2 duo. I've noticed that this application hanging maybe ralated to processor power management but im not sure what exaclty. I've tried very different sets of kexts and DSDTs.

Do you know any possible solution for this?
