I would like to report, that ASUS N61VG almost 100% compatible.

With EMpire EFI and retail disk i successfully instaled SL on this machine.

Both cores are working.

Works:

- 2 cpu with vanilla kernel

- keyboard, touchad (VoodooPS2)

- audio (VoodooHDA 32&64bit with CrackleFix)

- VGA: Nvidia 220m works, qa/ci enabled with 1333x768, hdmi, dual screen with dvi2hdmi cable

- SD card reader

- webcam (CNF7129) image shows upside down

- two finger scroll

Not works:

- VGA out (if external monitor is connected, laptop display turns off (black screen), but nothing happens)

- AR9285 wifi (I'll replace this)

- 2nd card reader

- multitouch partially works

- LAN (Atheros)

Not tested:

- eSATA

Any questions are welcome. If I can help for you or you need a more detailed install walk-through, pls write.

If anyone have experiences the problems listed above, pls write me.

Thanks to Prasys, Netkas, Tamás Kosársky, InfiniteMay, InsanelyMac, osx86.hu and Apple to give us chance to use osx.

Installed iAtkos v7 on my asus n61vg.

When installing choose default kexts. And the chameleon RS2. For video - set kekst GTX200. Help me to run geforce gt220m. My resolution now is 1366 x 768 and hdmi out works fine. But when i try to install Logic 9 it says that i need to run Quartz and i have 0 mb of VRAM! How to fix it? (Sorry for my english)  :(

And please tell me what kext have you installed for keyboard/touchpad?

Hello,

Sorry, but i did not have time to write. So, here is the step-bystep guide:

0.) Attach an usb keyboard and a mouse to your pc.

1.) Download Empire EFI from here.

2.) Burn the iso

3.) Get a retail SL 10.6 DVD (I used the original one)

4.) Boot with Empire EFI

5.) Replace the boot cd

6.) Insert the install DVD and hit F5

7.) Press TAB and type the following: cpus=1 -x

8.) Press enter

Be sure that you are using GUID partition table. If not, you can modify it with DiskUtlilty.

The install procedure should be start and you only need to complete it in the regular mode.

9.) Replace SL install disk

10.) Reboot with Empire EFI disk again, but choice the installed system to boot. (i dont remember exactly if cpus=1 was needed at this point)

11.) On the EFI disk you will find a folder called 'postinstall', run myhack.dmg witch is in this directory.

12.) Repair permissions in DiskUtility

13.) Remove Empire EFI disk and try to reboot without any flags.

If everything goes the right way, you need to reboot your system from hdd successfully.

14.) Now go to www.kexts.com and download the following drivers:

a.) Voodoo Trackpad PS2

b.) VoodooHDA 32&64bit with CrackleFix

c.) Voodoo Battery

d.) GT240M (OK) (? GT210mGT220M)Snowleo 10,6,2

You will need this tools: Kext Helper B7 and Kext Utility x64 for SnowLeopard (update)

15.) Install the downloaded kexts using Kext Helper.

16.) Reboot. Now you need to have your kb, trackpad, audio and vga (QE/CI enabled, 1366x768) correctly.

17.) Remove SleepEnabler from Extra/Extensions and run Kext Utiliy

18.) Reboot and update to 10.6.3 from Software Update

19.) Download 10.6.3 compatible SleepEnabler

20.) Reboot and repair permissions.

Hopefully you're done now. :)

Hello,

Sorry, but i did not have time to write. So, here is the step-bystep guide:

1.) Download Empire EFI from here.

It is ok, At least you are now writing it down. by the way, which EFI are we supposed to download? this one?

Download Empire EFI v.1085 for Intel P55 Chipset and Intel Core i5 and i7 8xx series , Intel Core 2 series , Intel Core series (Contains both EmpireEFI v1.085 and LegacyEmpireEFI v1.085)

I need to look after that but i think this version was that. I have the image on my external hdd and will try to tell you exactly witch EFI was it. (i tried 2 or 3)

Hello,

The components witch are not working at this time:

- LAN (unknown Atheros chipset??)

The chipset isn't unknown; it is atheros ar8131-at least mine is-, have you tried this site for its kext? although, that topic seems not to have a particular solution.

Installed iAtkos v7 on my asus n61vg.

I tried the same version but it just restarts during the booting? Have you installed with EFI? How did you manage it?

thanks

i think this was the right one

Hi, can you check if the links are correct ones. Only screen worked expectedly; keyboard, touchpad, soundcard, and the rest didn't work. Did you change your Wifi card, why?

thanks.

HOW TO INSTALL SL WITHOUT EMPIRE-EFI

Finally I found a better way to install and run Snow Leopard fully working in 64bit mode.

I hope this update will helpful for some of you.

Requirements:

- working osx system on notebook

- 2nd hdd, sd card or pendrive (min. 8GB)

- 3rd hdd for the new system

- carbon copy cloner

- retail osx dvd

- ASUS n61vg dsdt.aml (attached)

- Chameleon RC4 (attached)

- some kexts (attached)

- kext utils (attached)

Preparing your install disk

a.) Partition and format your installation volume. Set 1 partition and GUID table for it in Disk Utility.

b.) Name it to OSX86.

c.) Uncheck "ignore ownership for this volume" checkbox on this volume.

d.) install chameleon rc4 to OSX86

e.) Copy kexts (AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext, ApplePS2Controller.kext, fakesmc.kext, NullCPUPowermanagement.kext, PlatformUUID.kext) to /Volumes/OSX86/Extra/Extensions

f.) Go to Disk Utlility, select OSX86 on the left and "restore"

g.) Insert your retail SL dvd and set it to source

h.) Set OSX86 as destination

i.) Be sure that "Erase destination" checkbox is unchecked.

j.) Click on restore button.

k.) Wait

l.) copy dsdt.aml to OSX86's root directory

m.) copy dsdt.aml to your future installations root directory.

After retail dvd is copied to volume OSX86 quit Disk Utility and open Terminal.

Run the following commands:

sudo chown -R root:wheel /Volumes/OSX86/System/Library/Extensions

sudo chmod -R 755 /Volumes/OSX86/System/Library/Extensions

sudo chown -R root:wheel /Volumes/OSX86/Extra/Extensions

sudo chmod -R 755 /Volumes/OSX86/Extra/Extensions

sudo kextcache -v 1 -m /Volumes/OSX86/System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/Extensions.mkext

/Volumes/OSX86/System/Library/Extensions (Note : This has to be in one line , not two separate lines)

kextcache -v 1 -t -m /Extra/Extensions.mkext /Extra/AdditionalExtensions
sudo kextcache -v 1 -m /Volumes/OSX86/Extra/Extensions.mkext /Volumes/OSX86/Extra/Extensions/

Now your install disk is ready. :)

Install SL

a.) Boot OSX86 and install SL.

b.) When the installation is done reboot.

c.) Use OSX86's Chameleon but select the installed partition to load system.

d.) Go though SL welcome screen and fill the forms.

e.) Install Chameleon RC on it.

f.) install kexts.

g.) run QE CI Exotic cards 10.6.3.pkg

h.) set com.apple.boot.plist (/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.boot.plist):

add this lines to it:

<key>GraphicsEnabler</key>

<string>Yes</string>

g.) Run Kext utility.

h.) Repair permissions

i.) Reboot

j.) That's all. If everything is ok, you can boot now and start using it in 64bit mode.

Thanks to Prasys!!!! :D

i have the GT220m and I do not know how to get it to work,

I have never used a mac before but for work it would be much more helpful? How do I get the card to work? Detailed would be great if possible?

You need to google on it. On Netkas's page there is a driver pack called QE CI Exotic cards 10.6.3.pkg.zip..

Now thanks to Reader02, ethernet works as well!

download

pherekudes, what about functional buttons(Fn + Space etc.) . I couldn't make them work, which kext do you use for that?

I can report you that ethernet works well for me too.

Anyone with working sleep mode? I would like to fix it ASAP.
