revert
I have dual Xeon setup, one SATA hard drive, one SATA DVD and an Nvidia 9800 GT. I'm trying to install using the retail 10.6.0 and booting to RebelEFI. I got to the very end of the installation and had the error that the installation had failed as OSX couldn't restart my hard drive, something like that. I have my SATA mode set to Enhanced and i have enabled AHCI, if it's set to compatible i get a waiting for root device error when installing. Any ideas what the issue could be? Is there a better option for me other than using RebelEFI? Thanks. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/213116-installation-fail/ Share on other sites
karamat
before installing osx delete created apple partition and recreate it and unmount and mount again(for cacking purpose coz).... dunt select many patches or fixes.... first install with default or with few extra needed. and if u got installation succeeded than manually install extra patches... and if u geting panic on boot due to not selected aditional drivers and fixes than try -v -x -s OR -v -x -s cpus=1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/213116-installation-fail/#findComment-1430122 Share on other sites
revert
Thanks for the reply. I'm not using any patches or fixes, i'm installing from the retail DVD. I'm trying a new install right now using Empire EFI, i'll see how this goes. revert
I installed using Empire EFI on the machine in my sig but i can't boot. Having never installed from retail before, i'm a little lost what needs to be done to get it booting. I'll need to research it further. cyberbobcity
So at the end of the install it errored out. If you boot from the CD and then choose your new installation at the prompt, does it boot up? I installed using Empire EFI on the machine in my sig but i can't boot. revert
So at the end of the install it errored out. If you boot from the CD and then choose your new installation at the prompt, does it boot up? Actually that's what i tried. In verbose mode it starts booting then just eventually hangs, not really at an error as far as i can see. Part of my problem i think is when setting the SATA mode to enhanced, installs take a long time and my drives show up incorrectly, my hard drive shows as SCSI for instance. Even installing Windows in this mode takes much longer than normal. So the install of the retail Snow Leopard was very slow. Just booting to a cd or dvd is slow as well. Setting the SATA mode to Compatible fixes things in the bios, installations take what i consider to be the right amount of time and i can install versions such as iDeneb 10.5.5 but trying to install Snow leopard retail gives me the waiting for root device error. I should add there are two options in my bios relating to SATA. The first is Native Mode Operation, Choices are Serial ATA or Auto. Next is SATA controller mode option. Choices are Compatible or Enhanced. Selecting Enhanced enables another option, SATA AHCI Enable. Options are Enabled or Disabled. That's it really. revert
Another update. I've managed to install from the retail disk and booted into OSX using the Empire EFI disk. I have internet working but i need to fix audio and my video. What needs to be done before that so i can boot without the bootdisk? Do i need to install a bootloader? Anything essential i need to install to get things working? I'll search around the forums and see what i can find. Thanks. revert
I have everything running now, just a few small issues if anyone can help. I still have some audio issues, it's ALC883 i believe. I've installed the VoodooHDA kext and still isn't working. System profiler is showing the bus speed as 1.07ghz. One last issue, when i shut down, the machine shuts down for a few seconds then starts up again. If anyone has any ideas on these last few issues, i'd appreciate the help. It's great to have Snow Leopard installed on this rig, first time i've had it booted up for a couple of months. CRAiK17
Hi everyone, I have problems installing OS X. I have downloaded iDeneb and another one which I forgot... While i'm installing, the installation runs normally after rebooting of course! It says:''Press any key to open installation... something like dat...Then, after some time, it began with firewire problem... I don't have firewire on my PC! It goes on saying this: ''ERROR:FireWire unable to determine security-mode;defaulting to full secure'' and then it gets stuck repeating “still waiting for root device” again and again! I've read on some forums that it depends on the chipset... I wanted to know which version is gonna be ok on my pc...like iDeneb, Kalyway etc... Here are my pc specs: Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Motherboard: ASUS M4A785TD-V-EVO Memory(RAM): Kingston 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz (PC3-10600) Desktop Memory Hard Disk: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB 16MB Video/Graphic Card: Sapphire ATI HD 5770 Vapor-X Optical Drive: LG GH22 22x DVD+-RW (SATA) Please any help would be greatly apreciated!
