Toshiba Satilite

p4 3.2HT SSE2 and SSE3

80GB HD

I have XP on a 60gb partition.

I have OSX 10.4.6 on a 6.5GB Partition

Rest is free

OSX partition is type AF per guide. It is active. I'm dd'ing an image to. That whole process works fine.

I'm using the XP boot loader and chain0.

All i get is a cursor in the top left corner of the screen. It stays there. If I manually set the partition active and just boot straight to it, I get the HFS+ Partition error.

I've gone through the guide several times and turned this site up and down trying various ideas and so far this is the best I get.

Anyone have any ideas I can try? Maybe going back to 10.4.5 or earlier? Any ideas at this point would be helpfull.

Correction. Does NOT have SSE3, but is SSE2.

I can get OSX to boot fine and works great, slow, but works, in VMware under XP.

So I installed to the hard drive via VMware attempting a native boot using one of the vmware to partition guides here. I'm right back to the HFS+ Partition error if I use Smart FDisk's boot manager and a chain0 error if I use the XP boot loader.

The partition is Active. It is Primary.

I can do this all day long in VMware either using a physical disk partition or the virtual one that VMware creates. Trying to boot native is another story all together.

I've obtained another HD for my laptop, so i'm going to try a native install to that to see if it's an interface problem or just the partitions.

Other suggestions would be helpfull.

Yes, it was formated HFS+ via the installer.

The screw holding the hard drive cover apparently is stripped, so I can't try this on a full hd. So I got fancy.

Here's the current config of my hard drive

The first 7gb is where the apple partition resides.

The next 35gb or so is where XP resides.

The last 20gb or so is FAT32 for file storage between the two OS' if I can ever get this to dual boot

The 7gb partition is primary, active, HFS+ formatted and OSX installs to this partition via vmware just fine. I cannot install native due to the "Waiting on root device" error. That seems to be half the problem. Why the installer can boot from my CD drive, and then not read from it?

XP's installer works just fine and the laptop boots just fine. I have not used the chain0 and XP bootloader yet becuase I think i'll end up with the chainboot error.

So i'm stumped. Maybe the IDE isn't fully supported? Should I try to upgrade to .7 via vmware and then try?

Quick recap

Can't install native due to "waiting on root device". Can install to a physical partition via vmware

Booting via the XP bootloader yields "chain boot error"

Setting the HFS+ partition as active yields "HFS+ partition error"
