i've been looking around and haven't found the answer, and i'm sure it's a simple one...

i'm looking to throw osX86 onto an external drive. would that drive be compatible with a G4 (or any other mac) I might hook it up to afterwards?

it would be awesome to have one drive that's compatible with my PC at home and the Macs at school.

USB is compatable with both mac and pc. Thats why companies make standered for hardware. Im sure firewire is too, but Ive never used it so I dont know. Hitachi makes a really awsome 160gb usb external hdd that is a standered ide hdd so you can upgrade the size or make it internal for just under $100. Check out Newegg.

With REAL Mac Hardware, only Firewire is bootable ...

on PC, never get a FW drive to boot on...

never tested with an USB drive !

maybe i'ts possible .. (I get a USB & FW drive with OSx86 installed on it), i'll try tomorow on next boot.

you'll have my report then!
