Has anyone been successful with this card SAPPHIRE 100245HDMI Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 rev 2. If so please post the

1 The steps you took to get it to work

2 The kexts in your extra folder

3 The bootloader version that you are using

4 A link to the files that you used if possible

I have tried numerous different ways and still have had no luck in getting this card to work to its full potential. I can get it to work in 10.6.2 if i delete all ati kexts, but will only have 1024 x 768 resolution available.

See my post here. I have your card.

What about Sapphire 4830 512 dvi-svideo-dvi ?

I tried the netkas exotic patch for 10.6.2 , but I got some hiccups when moving the mouse and in general the whole GUI is kinda slowing from time to time ?

Then I tried adding the EVOenabler kext , and boot.plist from netkas 10.3 pc-efi , but the card started to spin the FAN really hard and then stops , and then again and again and continued to do this spin at 100% and stop fully.

Reinstalling 10.6 for the 5th time at the moment , I do take ANY ideas considering this video card.

(10.6 vanilla)

edit-all working prefectly. legacy4800 controller from netkas + his drivers. changed the dvi port for the mouse stutters ! 10.6.2 Vanilla :)

AustinDoc, how did you do a fresh install of Snow Leopard ? Everything i have tried (with the 4850 installed ) gives me a garbled or black screen. The only way i can install the retail disk is with my old 2600HD card installed.

Use TonyMacOSX ##### CD.

Since it is a ATI card, you have to boot up with the"-x" command. This will allow you to boot into "safe mode". You can then finish the installation and then install additional software.

Thats the same boot cd that i used. I am beginning to think it must be my monitor then, because I can not boot up even with -x and this card installed. I have found a old Mac CRT that I had, and it will boot with it with -x and dvi to vga adapter only. I noticed when it booted with it, the refresh rate was at 85 Hz, and my Samsung 2343 bwx Lcd monitor only does 60 Hz. :D

What type of monitor did you use ?

I have the I-inc iH282 28" monitor.

Initially it was a "blank" screen as if the video was out. I used "screen sharing" from another mac to adjust the resolution settings and it worked. I am able to get 60Hz and 75 Hz on this monitor.

I'm not sure how this worked but it worked. I tried to get higher resolutions with higher frequencies - 1920x1440 @ 75Hz but it is a no go. The highest setting I am able to achieve is 1920x1440 @ 60Hz.

Here is what is strange about this card. I can log into my desktop with Windows 7 and RealVNC and it shows the correct info for my graphic card and my display. I can go to system prefences and change the resolution and frequency to all availble ones that my card supports and it still has a black box on the actually samsung monitor that says "Not Optimum Mode 2048x1152@60Hz" but that is exactly what it is set as. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be, I am at the end of my rope on this one and about ready to buy a different card. :D;)

RayMac,

Sorry about your troubles with your monitor. I tied re-installing using the same procedure I used and the end result is the same. I can use both the VGA and DVI ports without any problems. I have not tried dual monitor but the 1920x1200 resolution works perfectly.
