I'm running snow leopard via Tonymac's ##### w/ ##### install method.

I have a PCI firewire card installed, it's branded Adaptec AFW4300D w/ a NEC chipset. I show the "firewire bus capable of 400 MBps" message under the firewire section of profiler and the firewire interface shows up in networking.

I use firewire to capture video from my HD cable box, it's always worked fine connected to my MacBook but when I try AVCBrowser on this machine nothing shows up.

Using CHUD I was able to get the following info on the card:

nec 1033:00f2 uPD72874

device ID 0x00F2

vendor ID: 0x1033

Any suggestions on how to go about trying to fix this would be appreciated. I'm guessing I probably need to add some kext files but no clue which ones or what edits to make.

Problem solved - I didn't have a DSDT file in my /Extras folder (The ##### how to guide is still in development and the post install step of adding one wasn't specified). Tonymac provided me with a DSDT configured for my system and even without adding anything specific for the firewire PCI card it began to work. I'm back to capturing HD video again.

more info for other users who might search this out -

My firewire PCI cards only work if the "arch=i386" option is added to my boot.plist file. In other words, I can't run the 64 bit kernel and extensions if I want firewire to be functional.

When I boot in 64 bit mode I get a "dependency failure" in my firewire kexts. I don't know if this is a hardware or software limitation at this time. From what I've been able to read the firewire kexts should support 64 bit mode so it's possible that both of my firewire PCI cards are 32 bit only.

I may order a pci-e card listed as 64 bit compatible and see if it works in 64 bit mode.

Please, could you be so kind as of posting how did you manage to get it working?

Which kexts do you use?

everything, even the dumbest detail can be very useful for me.

Thanks in advance
