Cjtouhey
i just reinstalled my Grub 2 boot loader and as i booted into the osx86 partition on my hard drive it gave me a kernal panic with no options to boot into into safe mode or anything. do you think grub 2 over writing OSX86s MBR has damaged the start up. and is there any way to fix it? srs5694
Post more details, including: How is your disk partitioned (MBR, GPT, or hybrid MBR)? Post your complete partition layout -- ideally, post the output of a text-mode program like fdisk. (Apple's GUI Disk Utility omits too much information to be very useful for diagnostics.) Where did you install GRUB2 (to the MBR or to a partition)? What command did you use? Why did you upgrade it? What OSx86 boot loader are you using (Chameleon, PC-EFI, Boot Think, etc.)? Do you see any differences in the way the system begins to boot? For instance, does selecting OS X in your GRUB menu immediately begin booting the kernel, vs. before did it chainload into an OSx86 boot loader's menu? It's almost certainly possible to fix the problem, but how to do it depends on the answers to these, and perhaps other, questions. You'll probably need to reconfigure GRUB, re-install GRUB, re-install an OSx86 boot loader, or some combination of these things. srs5694
Do you mean that you installed GRUB 2 to your Linux partition (/dev/sda1)? If so, check your partition table using fdisk or GNU parted and remove the active/bootable flag from that partition. Some OSx86 boot loaders seem to boot straight through to the active partition, so if your OSx86 boot loader still resides in the MBR but your Linux partition got marked as active, that's most likely the problem. srs5694
If you're getting a kernel panic then by definition something is booting your kernel. Your description of what's happening is unclear. I suggest you take some digital photos of your screen as you boot, showing each distinct screen, starting with the first non-BIOS screen (probably your GRUB display). Post them here so that somebody who understands the boot process can tell you what's going on and suggest a remedy.
