FNG
When I try to install distros such as Kalyway I get the "still waiting for root device" error. I read that this is related to the chipset kext, but the only way to add kexts to kalyway is with another mac, which i don't have... However, in my desperation I have downloaded several other distros. I still haven't figured out how to add kexts to them though. Maybe this also has to do something with AHCI? Also, I can't make any big BIOS changes because my lame Acer BIOS is locked...unless someone knows how to unlock it? I've got a big list of backdoor passwords for it but don't know what to do with them. Maybe if I pm'd the guy that wrote this he would be able to help me, but I need to know which controller is the one that I need a kext for (see attached screenshot). Here is a small part of a gigantic cpuz report: Processors ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Number of processors 1 Number of threads 2 APICs ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Processor 0 -- Core 0 -- Thread 0 0 -- Core 1 -- Thread 0 1 Processor 1 ID = 0 Number of cores 2 (max 2) Number of threads 2 (max 2) Name Intel Pentium E2180 Codename Conroe Specification Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2180 @ 2.00GHz Chipset ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Northbridge NVIDIA GeForce 7050 rev. FNG
Yeah I've been to that post..."NVIDIA nForce Series 5 and 6 MCP (570i, 590i, 610i, 630i, 650i and 680i) chipsets..." lo and behold I happen to have a 620i chipset (one of the few not listed there). I will look at it again, more closely, and check out your blog. I will look at it again, more closely, and check out your blog. Read post #2.....AFAIK you have a GeForce7050/NVIDIA nForce 620i (MCP73VE chipset).... FNG
The problem with that is that my *cough* terrible bios is locked by *cough* crappy Acer. But it DOES give me the option to put it in RAID mode. Should I do that?
