Fatshenanigans
As ambitious as I might seem to post this as my first topic, I've been lurking and reading here for over a year. I've always loved gadgets since my father was an electronics repairman. I've managed to setup many systems now for both myself and my friends. I'm a photographer, graphic artist, and part time model but on some days I've found that I earn more fixing and configuring hardware So I'm starting this thread to learn in a more organized manner and hopefully a few of you will help me by trusting me to help you Before I start, I must give credit to those who influenced me the most by using their DSDT examples as a guide: 1) Master Chief 2) d00d 3) Bchemist 4) Silencers 5) FormerlyKnownAs 6) Pere and all of the guys and gals from Evosoft Be sure to read Silencers guide here to better understand DSDT. He saved me a ton of time on what I planned to write plus more things I didn't know! http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=211705 When doing these examples I admit that I don't know everything about the topic. I can get computers to work 100% or at least as close to vanilla as possible, but I'm still experimenting with all of the different methods and schools of thought as are all of you. And there are several schools of thought. Some believe that the DSDT isn't necessary if you can modify the bios. Others believe that a DSDT should be stripped bare and rely on a bootloader. Finally there's the group that believes that a simplified DSDT and a well-made bootloader is the way to go. I happen to believe that all three are correct, but for most of us, we just want our computer to be up and running at 100% capacity. If we can make it better than a Mac, then that's even better! So I'll be using the 3rd method since the other two methods are still heavily in the testing phases. In other words please keep criticism to a minimum since if there's an easier method, I'm more than willing to hear someone out and learn a new method. So here are my basic rules and requirements for this thread: 1) DO NOT PM ME ASKING QUESTIONS! If you have a question, it's likely that other people have the same question so please allow everyone to benefit by asking it on the forum. 2) When posting your DSDT, please also post a copy of the list of device-id that are running in your system. You can do this by using Everest or EvoToolsX. In EvoToolsX it's the LSCPI info. 3) To extract your DSDT, you can use Lavalys Everest while in Windows. Right click the bar at the bottom of the window to find the DSDT dump option. Then use the resulting DSDT.bin with ACPIPatcher. Get that tool here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=142434 4) I am not an octopus. I can only multitask so much so please be patient in all things 5) Please do not turn this into "How do I install onto a (Insert your computer here)?" How-to guides are already out there and if there isn't one, please start a new thread for your system while using the info you get here. Otherwise this thread will get completely off-topic. Feel free to post error messages and whatnot. 6) When you do your install, plug in only 1 hard drive, 1 graphics card, and 1 DVD writer. If you can use a USB drive for DVD, that's actually better. Also use a USB keyboard and mouse. Do not use the serial ports. Finally turn off your LAN, audio, and anything else that can be enabled later since we always add or fix it later. The idea should be to get your system working at first. To expect it to be working 100% with every peripheral installed at the outset is plain silly and greedy in my opinion and also is related to most failed installs I've read about. 7) Graphics card data is very important. Be sure to post your card when posting your DSDT. It's even better if you can use the I/O registry tool to find out your pin configurations and anything else. So that's all for now. I'll update this front page with anything important that we discover in the posts that follow. For all of you who are totally stuck not knowing where to begin or have a nagging problem that you cannot fix, maybe I can help you fix it if the gurus are burned out or busy already. William Parker
Hi Please immediately update your sig. Add to it your newest toy - the spaceship you put together which has taken you to a remote planet in some far away galaxy. That should explain your long absence. Knock knock knock... Hello? JuiCe_pl
For all of you who are totally stuck not knowing where to begin or have a nagging problem that you cannot fix, maybe I can help you fix it if the gurus are burned out or busy already. A great initiative. For starters. I have an HP nx7300 which is basicly very close to MacBook 2.1 2008 (i945, T2700, VGA is GMA 950 27A2) A well known problem with nx7300 and nx7400 ist that it just does not work with both cores on. We have to use CPU=1. There were some fixes proposed (like plugging in and out the power supply when the notebook freezes when running on both cores) but they do not work in my case. Symptoms: It KPs on boot without cpus=1 and if i get to the desktop in freezes randomly - mouse is not working (either USB or PS2) but.... if i press the power button the usual turn-off screen shows so.... it must be still working.. somehow. Here is the dsdt http://emisca.altervista.org/nx7400/old/DSDT.dsl I will post the rest of requested information when i get home. William Parker
@JuiCe_pl The great initiative is unsupported. Fatshenanigans seems to have vanished. Last post was 26 March 2010. Guess must be busy with something important. So long.
