geiman
The still waiting for a device error sounds like it can't find either your DVD drive or hard drive. If you can find what chipset your hard drive/dvd drive are connected to, we can let you know if it will be compatible or not. You may have more success with a different 'distro', but I haven't used one in so long I'm not sure what the differences are between them. I'd start with researching about your laptop and finding the exact specs of your storage chipset, then go from there. rohan-04
Are you using DVD or USB? Since its a laptop you can take the hard-disk out and connect it to a desktop and install it on that...But remember to choose the kexts for both the computers. But i think iPc is the most advanced,iDeneb is the best for laptop. For the best compatability make your own image. RoyV
isn't the error "still waiting for root device"? @rohan: Funny you say that as I have difficulties installing iDebeb on my laptop, but on PC this works great besides a few "minor" bugs I have to figure out yet. Going to try iPC for the laptop and see what gives Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/211713-newbie-how-to-fix-this-error/#findComment-1419387 Share on other sites

Azimutz
I don't think there are HD controllers for your ATI Radeon Xpress 200 Chipset that's what the "still waiting for root device" message means. I may be wrong, but at least i didn't find them. If you're lucky give me a buzz.. i need them for a buddy's lappy Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/211713-newbie-how-to-fix-this-error/#findComment-1419712 Share on other sites

Rexley
Have you tried booting with cpus=1? Only if your cpu is a dual core though. When you see the bootloader press any button and type that, worth a try. Beerkex'd
It's usually safe to assume that if someone with a +200 post count gives you an advice they're probably talking from experience. Two posted in this thread already and told you what you need to do. You're not going to get an answer that's more pleasing to you, asking the same question again and again will not change the solution. Your problem is not because of your drive, it's the drive controller, which is part of the motherboard South Bridge, which is part of the motherboard chipset. CPUS=x is used to set how many CPU cores are active, it is totally unrelated to your issue. As has been hinted at several times in this thread already you need to find a Hackintosh install DVD that has support for the drive controller in your laptop. "Still Waiting for Root Device" means that the OS is not seeing any drives because it can't talk to the drive controller. This happens most commonly on systems with P-ATA drives. OS X has limited P-ATA controller support out of the box, most of the P-ATA controller drivers that we use on Hackintoshes are older drivers, modified/fixed/improved by someone in the community. If your install DVD doesn't have a driver for your P-ATA drive controller, you cannot boot from a P-ATA drive. In short: Find out what drive controller chip your laptop has (make and model) Find out if there is a Hackintosh install DVD that comes with support for this controller.
