legionX
It just has to be able to have graphics acceleration to run Final Cut Studio. I can deal with other issues. I really am wanting a nice hackintosh laptop, but I seriously don't have the time to go through every single laptop on Best Buy's website and check each spec individually. Does anyone know? Please. Microcenter has the Macbook 13.3 for $799. Not sure if there's one around you but I'm guessing you'll be spending at least 600-700 for a decent laptop from bestbuy so this might be a better solution? The problem is that most notebooks are coming with the intel 4500 gpu which isn't fully supported with hardware acceleration. You'll most likely want a discrete gpu like a 9400gt or 8600gt etc. but again they're expensive. Another option would be a used 6860fx gateway. You can find one for $500 and it has an 8800m gts with full support. Everything works except for sleep and you can update the processor. I have this laptop and I get 4400 on geekbench with an x7800. Better than macbook pros. The dell latitude d620/d630/820 work as well but none are available at bestbuy. Maybe this one? Gateway yeah, thought about the new MacBooks, but no firewire. yeah, thought about the new MacBooks, but no firewire. does the firewire on your 6860 work? this machine will be for editing, so without FCP and firewire it's useless.
