TheOriginalPol
I'm running a fully vanilla install of SL 10.6.2, via the myHack USB method. After a long, long time of tweaking and fixing, I am running a nearly perfect system with almost everything working -- except SLEEP. When I use the sleep command, my laptop does the classic "dislplay-and-disks-sleep-but-rest-of-machine-stays-on" act. And then of course I can't wake it back up, and have to do a hard shutdown. I understand that there are many factors that could prevent my sleep function from working, but all I'd like is a little guidance on where to begin troubleshooting. Things I have tried: - Tons and tons of searching - USBFix=yes - some DSDT modification (using DSDTSE and also Patcher GUI) - SleepEnabler.kext, IntelCPUDisablerWhatever.kext, LegacyAppleRTC.kext, EvoReboot.kext, etc. - Disabling Safe Sleep (with pmset and nvram commands) - enabling legacy USB in BIOS, and also switching to IDE mode - Multiple reinstalls, including from different distros P.S. Please don't waste my time by grilling me for spam or being a n00b, I know there are tons of sleep threads out there but I just would like to be *at least* pointed in the right direction. I can post my DSDT.aml if necessary... thanks in advance :-) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/211265-sleep-pm45ich9/ Share on other sites
oldnapalm
Have you tried running vanilla power management? Let AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext run without disablers (Disabler.kext, NullCPUPowerManagement.kext, ...) and check if the CPU does not overheat (use VoodooMonitor). AFAIK the PM must be working for sleep to work, or you have to use SleepEnabler. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=181631 If it's all fine with PM it may be something with USB, check this topic http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=168014 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/211265-sleep-pm45ich9/#findComment-1415064 Share on other sites
TheOriginalPol
Hey Napalm, AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext has always seemed to be running fine in system profiler (I deleted the disabler kexts immediately after I knew they wouldn't fix my problem). Of course I don't know how much that actually means, haha. Anyways I've always figured PM was working on my install, though I've never actually known a surefire way to tell (other than how quickly my battery dies) so thanks a lot for that tip. It looks to me like PM is working correctly according to VoodooMonitor, but I don't know -- you tell me: Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/211265-sleep-pm45ich9/#findComment-1415115 Share on other sites
TheOriginalPol
Hey, look at that!!!!! The UHCI DSDT fix in the second link you gave me worked... almost. (Funny, I seem to remember trying that fix in the past... I think now that I have more knowledge on DSDT I actually did it RIGHT this time.) Anyways, now my system seems to successfully sleep, but then more than half the time it instantly wakes back up -- leaving me right at the desktop I started with. (the other half of the time it works perfectly, thanks so much!!) Weird. I have a feeling this is a simple fix, maybe has something to do with Wake-on-demand? Hmm. EDIT: I was able to easily fix my problem by adding USBBusFix=Yes back into my Boot.plist. Now my machine sleeps 10/10 times! *Yessssssssss* Ahh, the joy of having a 100% working system. Thanks so much for the guidance, OldNapalm. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/211265-sleep-pm45ich9/#findComment-1415130 Share on other sites
