Looks like there's a problem with your ATA device drivers. I can't help without more information.

 

Try looking for a newer jmicron ATA driver.

 

Maybe it'll work if you use Disk Utility or Toast to make an image of the DVD first, then install from that.

What Beerkex'd said. Also, don't use IDE in a Hackie if you can help it. It's often more trouble than it's worth. Spend $25 and get a SATA DVD-RW drive and replace/remove and IDE hard drives. It's just too bloody problematic most of the time.

If it works with the maxmem flag then all you need is to install a patched jmicronata.kext. You don't have to buy new drives.
