Hardware is a Dell Inspiron 14z with SL 10.6.2, using RealtekR1000SL.kext for the Ethernet. Wifi (Airport) was functioning fine before RC4. Running with 64-bit kernel and extensions, with 32-bit kernel boot mode.

I installed Chameleon RC4 and rebooted. Boot was ok. But, NO networking. Both Ethernet and Airport were both GONE. Trying to open Network in System Preferences just gave me a spinning beach ball.

I mucked around and tried kernel flag "arch=i386" and everything loaded up fine. Ethernet and Airport functional, and some of my extra kexts (like EvOrestart) seemed to be working.

Problem is, I want 64-bit kernel, like I had before. I moved a few things around (IONetworkingFamily into S/L/E instead of Extra/Extensions) and rebooted and now Airport works in 64-bit mode. No Ethernet, though. Other kexts like EvOrestart don't seem to be loading in 64-bit as I can no longer restart in 64-bit mode.

Try as I might, i cannot get my ethernet working in 64-bit mode. If I do the "-v", all the usual REALTEK lines are not there. Nothing is listed for REALTEK like there used to be during the startup.

Any ideas why RC4 clobbered by 64-bit kernel? More important, any idea how to get it back???

Thanks!
