Beerkex'd
You didn't install the right driver for the Southbridge or drive controller chip. If you completed the installation and it can start up with the DVD in the drive, it's obviously available on the DVD you used. But chipset is the only thing you didn't list in your specs. Beerkex'd
If you can't enable AHCI for the ICH8 in the BIOS, you need to install AppleIntelPIIATA.kext during the install process. Or you can use Pacifist (google it) to extract it from your installation DVD and install it in the extensions folder. mh4pac
I had the same problem, I did the bios configuration and it was still percisting, when I put DVD in another PC, it said that it was blank, so I guessed that It was a bad copy, I have good image with right MD5, so i reburn it with ImgBurn (freeware), then it woks, try and don't forget to feed back!!! Beerkex'd
Another thing that has been repeated over and over about a billion trillion times is to always burn at the slowest speed supported by burner and media. But "still waiting for root device" means that the OS can't communicate with the drive controller that the root device (the drive) is attached to. If you have a bad burn you would normally see "SAM Multimedia error", not "still waiting for root device". If you can't start the OS without the DVD in the drive, 9 out of 10 times that means you didn't install a bootloader.
