Try booting with the -v flag so that when you get the panic you'll see what happened. Although most of it won't make sense (stuff like 0x897743) there should be something readable where it says "backtrace".

In terms of making changes to the file system, you might be able to use macdrive or transmac. Im looking into using a ubuntu live cd, which may be the easiest. Im in a similar situation in which i need to remove a file from SL drive, but cant.

post the last couple of lines before you kp (assuming your using -v)

-v flag

@StarkIndustries! i have installed MacDrive 8 on my laptop so i can open Apple HFS+ Partition

Drive where Snow Leopard is installed. in this case let me know which files to be delete/paste in it

and i need to know which files??

Either i have GParted Live CD on Bootable USB which may be you are talking about if this can

fix my problem so kindly guide me how to..?

Hello Guys! I have the exact same problem on the following hardware:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 @ 2,13Ghz

Mobo: ASUS P5KC

GPU: GeForce 9600GT

The install runs fine, but at first boot it tells me that "You need to restart your computer... blablabla". How can I run that "-v" flag ? I don't have any option at booting to enter something. Or do I need the DVD for that ? I tried the Hazard version and the SnowOSX version. One of them gives me Restart problem, the other just doesnt want to start and stop appears. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Okay, just what I thought, it's a Kernel Panic. It says something about:

com.apple.driver.AppleIntelPIIXATA

com.apple.iokit.IOATAFamily.

I have 2 SATA drives. One is a 250GB Samsung HDD, and the other one is an Optiarc SATA DVD-RW drive.

What should I do ? I selected some fixes for SATA/ATA, but still the problem persists. If I delete these files in Terminal, I get "Still waiting for root device." Any advices?

Unf0rgiven, first try the link above, thats what caused my panic for SL except I used the retail DVD, if problem persists try this:

don't boot from the DVD, start up the computer and when you hit the darwin prompt type -v.

If you have Chameleon just type -v when you get to the first chameleon screen. Then you'll get a verbose boot of your existing install.

@cowfish: these following screenshot (kernel panic) i got in result when i boot from apple partition

here

but when i boot with -v flag this screen i got

here

and when i boot with -v -x32 flag i got

here

so wht to fix??

Looks like SleepEnabler.kext is the issue. If possible boot with -s mode and then

/sbin/mount -uw /

cd /System/Library/Extensions

rm SleepEnabler.kext

exit

Then boot with -F to ignore caches so that it doesn't use that kext and see if it works

@cowfish! alright i,ve tried with -s flag but again getting same panic

even i can not open /sbin/mount xyz/ cd/system/library/extensions... through Macdrive 8

it opens only apple partition root directory rather if i try to open sbin or any folder it gives me dumping physical memory error with blue screen n restart my PC.

then how can i fix this sleepenabler panic ???

EDIT:

OKAY!!! i searched into this forum n i found sleepenabler.kext for 10.6.2 but

don't know how to replace it or which app/way should i use to browse into apple partition to replace it????

isn't there any otherway from Windows PC ???

bcz i requested earlier i dont have Mac or hackint0sh around

The easiest way would probably be to hook up the laptop's hard drive to a working Mac and then use Kext Helper or something to install the kext to the hard drive.
You could try a Linux live CD since Linux can natively read HFS+. Then you can drop in the kext from a flash drive or something.

alright i got this Linux Slax 6.1.2 Live CD for USB. shall it work for me???

further tell me exactly where/which directory to drop sleepenabler.kext file ??

thnx cowfish

alright i,ve searched a lot about it n found the fix kext files and now im stuck with replacing them

im using Linux Slax Live CD(USB) to access the apple partition

i follow the procedure found in this forum for example:

X:/System/Library/Extensions/voodoobattery.kext.....alright now im using Linux Live USB for deleting

the orignal kexts n want to paste newer version kext files there

this Slax Live CD USB letting me read/explore it only...CAN NOT delete them or paste any files

which Linux Live CD version should i use to get done?????

Sorry, try booting off the install disc and going to Utilities -> Terminal

I'm not sure but I believe you should try:

cd /Volumes/{Name of OS X Partition}/

cd /System/Library/Extensions

rm SMBIOSResolver.kext

rm SleepEnabler.kext

and then try to boot. However I still suggest you use a real Snow Leopard DVD as you won't have to worry about the odd kexts the patched one installs.
