Falcon060
Hello all, I have been following this forum over a 1.5 years now, that way I could get a feel for how to do my own HackinTosh build. I finally built my computer last April-May time frame and seem to have hit a couple of snags. First snag, I am using the 10.5.0 Retail DVD to install Mac OSX and when it updates from 10.5.6 to 10.5.8 all I get is a black screen. Not sure what is causing this, I will have my system specs at the end of this message. The second snag, I believe I need this update from 10.5.6 to 10.5.8 in order to upgrade from my NVIDIA 9800GTX+ to the NVIDIA GTX285. Is that a fair statement? If this is true then how do I get my system to update from 10.5.6 to 10.5.8 without getting the preverbial black screen. In order to get my NVIDIA 9800GTX+ to work I used OSX86 Tools and put the information it needed into the bootup kext. QI/CI are hardware accelerated and all resolutions up 1920x1200 are supported. So I know the video card works at least under 10.5.6. I am using BOOT132 to be able to multiboot my system. Unfortnately, all I have been able to get it to boot from is CD. I would love to get this to boot right from the hard drive. I am sure it would be much faster. Any thoughts on that would be greatly appreciated. But at this point its more important to me to find out how to get my system updated to 10.5.8 and whether it would work with NVIDIA GTX285 with the update to 10.5.8 or if it is even needed to update for this card to work. From what I have been able to gather thus far 10.5.7 offered more support for higher end video cards. OK here are my system specs, If I missed anything that someone needs please let me know. Intel Core 2 Quad 9650 3.0 ghz. overclocked to 4.0 ghz. Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3L 8GB of OCZ The Reaper DDR2-1066 Ram BFG Tech Nvidia 9800GTX+ 1GB of Vram (wanting to upgrade to BFG Tech GTX-285 1GB of Vram) 1TB Hitachi 32mb cache 7200 RPM 3.0GB/sec Hard Drive (This is my Mac OS Hard Drive) 640 GB Seagate 32 MB cache 7200 RPM 3.0GB/sec Hard Drive (This is my XP Pro 64-bit Hard Drive) 2 Samsung 22X DVD-Burners Apevia 680 watt Blue Iceberg Power Supply Sycthe Ninja 2 CPU Cooler Antec 1200 Full Tower Case I believe I have everything that is needed. As stated I use BOOT132 for my boot loader and have only been able to get it to update to 10.5.6. I have everything backed up thanks to Time Machine. So experimenting is no issue cause 25 minutes or less I can be back up and running agian like it never happened. Any questions, comments let me know and I can do my best to answer them.
